Anglicans. during the new holy communion service we are given a piece of bread which
The Communion is a token celebration of the LAST Supper in which unleavened bread was served (Feast of the Passover). Why do we still not do that or is it my Church only that does this.
I feel a shock of disappointment each time this happens, it seems to be ceremonially incorrect and a departure to far. I can not understand why we can not have the traditional wafer or piece of wafer of unleavened bread
To the drunken fool I am not crying i just want to know
On the contrary the Jews distanced themselves from the Christians because they could not or would not acceptEThrist as the Saviour or Messiah I
The feet washing was at another time
I agree with pune but times change is not much of a reason
Lith Raven One thing at a time christ throughoutthe whole of his ministry was far from anti-female but women were far down om the scale of importance as is the case with Muslims it is a case of one thing at a time.
you clearly dint understand the whole point of the service. it isn't to be fastidiously accurate, its about remembrance. now stop being such a cry baby.
Time has changed and almost everywhere they serve normal bread. its not that detail which is important, your love for god and how much you trust him is the most important.
Is a normal bread made with yeast a lot cheaper and easier to obtain? Might be the Minister is trying to save money And as the communion is purely a symbolic gesture does it really matter... Could be anything... Does it need to be the same as 2000 years ago
It might have to with early anti-Semitic sentiments that may or may not still be there that caused some Christians sects to distance themselves as far away from Jews as possible.
In the Church's I've been to church's though that use the small wafers. They look and taste like the little papery things you find inside bottle caps.
There is such a thing as taking things too literally.... it was only a small gathering of men & they got their feet washed too... does that happen in your church?...
No, thought not!!!...
"Ceremonially incorrect" - well so is women taking communion then, are you going to tell 50% of Christians that this is wrong too????

I believe we are celebrating the death and resurrection of the Lord (The Lord's Supper) at communion and not the Passover. It was the beginning of the New Covenant. The New Covenant took place when Christ, the Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7), was sacrificed (Hebrews 8:8-13). The sacrificial system was no longer needed (Hebrews 9:25-28).
