Although I'm not Asatru, I don't believe many folk do that anymore in the sense you're thinking. I don't view it as any differently than slaughtering for food just like commercial industries do to supply grocery stores or a hunter that eats their kill. I will star this, however, for any of my contacts that may be better versed on the subject.

No I don't think they do. There would be no purpose for it.

Yes, actually, some groups of Asatrur do make animal sacrifices. The animal is most often hand-raised, fed only organic food, is humanely killed, blood collected, entrails used for divination, and the meat is prepared and eaten in a most respectful manner. This is usually only done for a group gathering and for special occasions (Holy Tides).

I am Asatruar. No, we do not sacrifice animals. As with all religions, ours has conformed to modern law and to what is socially acceptable. Instead of animal sacrifice, we instead make sacrifices of food and drink to honor the gods.

Some do, some don't -- however, those that do, as far as I know, always consume the meat.
