Default Asatru Noobness?

What is Beltain?

I vaguely remember seeing a Holiday around this time of year that had something to do with "The dark side of Freya and Frigga."

But i dint remember the basic nature or purpose... its what I get for not having time to visit Kin very often.
horrible spelling. I am so sorry.

Do what????

Never heard that one. Actually Beltaine is Celtic not Norse. I can't remember what we call our May Day but it usually focuses on Freyr and the fertility of earth if I remember correctly.

It's a Celtic holiday celebrating spring. People would jump over bonfires or dance around Maypoles with their special someone and offer blessings for a bountiful harvest/fertility.

Beltain is more a Celtic Wiccan Sabbath. The Sumarians celebrate Sed this time of year but I'm not sure about the Asatru as I don't know many who follow that path. Most, if not all, Pagan "holidays" or Sabbaths focus on rebirth and fertility this time of year since it is Spring.

Celebrating the first day ?rimilci-Mona; Walpurgisnatch for Heathens. Beltain is Celtic and nothing to do with Heathenry. Its part of the collection of regional Heathen celebrations of spring, Ostara/Equinox through to May Day, each of these were celebrated by one tribe or another depend ant on geography and climate. In Britain we have historically celebrated both the Equinox and May Day, but then all the Heathen tribes ended up here and lived with the Celts/Britons.

Indeed it's Walpurgis night that's Heathen - although more Germanic Heathen than Asatru. It's a slightly darker festival than Beltaine, it's celebrated on the may eve (April 30Th - tonight).

Traditionally it's celebrated with a bonfire to keep away evil spirits that are outside this evening - something like Halloween, only the opposite (this is the holiday when the summer half of the year starts, Halloween is when the winter half of the year starts.)

If you want to give it a Asatru content, this holiday would be an okay time for celebrating the memory of the dead ancestors. Since it's a night of magic, it's good for rune work and therefore dedicated to Odin. A blot to Odin would be in order, as would contemplating his sacrifice to obtain the runes.

This is also the night when witches and demons are supposed to be outside and doing their magic...

It's a Wiccan holiday. Based off a reconstructed (and probably not reliable) Celtic (not Asatru) Wheel of the Year.

Beltane is the Celtic name for May Day. In Germanic countries this celebration is called Walpurgis or Valborg... etc. Named after the English Saint Walpurga. Southerly Germanic countries seemed to have celebrated May Day by Dancing around a May Pole wrapping it in ribbons but in the northern Germanic countries they tend to have bonfires, "to scare evil spirits" someone suggested to me, and also sometimes fireworks. I have heard that this is a time for Freyr and Freyja because the celebration seems to be cent red around fertility.
