Default This is a question I have had for a long time about Asatru....?

I have heard of an off shoot of Asatru called Wotanism that sees the gods as archetypes. Can anyone tell me what this means exactly? Are they saying that the gods are not real or am I not getting it?
My question is about Asatru not Muslim terrorist crap why did you post this nonsense?
Thanks for helping me erase the rant,I appreciate it!!

Yes, they see the gods as just representations of ideas. They only exist in concept.

Forget that garbage, you don't need to get it, you are a part of God. Our one God is not an archetype, but all the others are an inherited idea in the individual unconscious that is thought to derive from the collective experience of mankind as a whole.

Yes, that means they are saying the gods aren't real. They are saying that the gods are only characters that represent different parts of humanity and the world around us. Odin is the poet, Thor the warrior, Heimdall the guard, Loki the trickster, etc. Asatruar would never see the Aesir so one-diddly. We believe the gods have many different attributes and personalities, and they do actually exist on one level or another.

Define "real." With all the things we are finding out about physics, that isn't as easy as it once was. My take on it is that the Gods are at least as real as we are, maybe "real-er." What exactly they are folks can debate till the cows come home. Heathenism is a very hands-on, practical belief. The Gods are with us, and don't expect us to recite creeds or jump through dogmatic hoops. The arguments of the early Christian churches about the nature of Jesus (divine, human, or some sort of mix...) are not the sort of thing most Heathens worry about.
