I am a Christian, but am considering leaving Christianity. I could certainly do worse than examining ?satr?, Odinism or any other variety of Heathenry as a spiritual option. The more I learn about Heathenry, the more I respect it. I think that it certainly teaches self-reliance and strength of character more than Christianity currently seems to. I wouldn't say that any one religion is necessarily "better" than another one, since different religions work for different people. However, something about Heathenry resonates strongly with me, and I respect it. It is an honorable path.

Is Odinism a religion?

Any pantheistic religion is better than the monotheistic ones - they have more options, less of a "jealous" controlling central figure and account for developing understanding in a more consistent manner.

The Norse gods had a lot going for them. If you get off on the idea of a "rapture" you are half way there already.

Historically speaking, Odin wasn't so much worshiped as accepted as the senior / father of the gods - a good one to pray to before a battle or making a hard decision. During a stormy sea crossing you'd be better asking Thor and / or Nj?r?r for help. If you are hoping for children, Freyr would be the one to ask.

At least with the Norse gods, when they ignore your prayers it is just down to their capricious, human-like, nature. When the Christian god ignores you all manner of "the lord works in mysterious ways" things have to be invented.
