Default Asatru, Anglo Saxons and other Forms of Heathens?

how many of you have family lore that has been passed down since before the Baltic crusades? also do you think i should write my families lore or rather have it translated and publish it?

Shamanism and Animism goes back to at least 60'000 years ago. It is the oldest belief system. No point in writing anything down. The meanings to words change over time. Peoples way of thinking changes over time. We record things in allegorical stories. Often translated by literal mind sets into utter codswallop.

Practicing Shaman... quantum physics rocks.

Yes, some verbal history on maternal grandmother's side. From mother to daughter advice, recipes, & even what you'd classify as 'spells' or rituals, an old notebook with a little bit of written (details), I an old bible with family tree & 'other' notes in it. Kind of ironic, since the 2 philosophies seem in direct opposition to each other.

Would I share it? No, I don't think so. With my daughters & nieces, yes, but with the public, no. We were always told that this wasn't for men, but that this was part of being a woman, so I wouldn't even share it with my son. My sister has taught her only child, a boy, some of this & I have mixed feelings on it as it goes against the tradition.

For the record, I'm not a practicing anything, but still find it interesting, although heavily superstitious.

Should you? Well, what would your family traditions have to say about this? Was secrecy an important part of it? The historical value could be great, many could even learn from it, but is it in keeping with your personal beliefs to make it public?

I think it would be interesting to hear the stories of you family and other family's who didn't convert during the crusades and such, I'm guessing it would piss off many Heathens though because they might see how wrong some of their ideas are, or maybe it would make them happy because it made reconstitution of their faith easier.

from what your brother has explained to me it all sounds very interesting and I would love to learn more.

It would be up to you whether or not you want to publish it. If I were you though, I would write it down that way you have a written copy of your family's history so it won't be forgotten.

And yes, I can trace my family's history back to before Denmark and Iceland was Christianized.

What a great place to start a story. The little known Baltic( Northern) Crusades. Make an article with family lore and also do some research on the 3 popes that presided over the invasions so people can understand the violence of that era. Write to the Vatican for anything they may have on that period. Or a 2 part you tube video you can read with viking metal as back round music. Have you looked into Lithuanian Romuva yet? It's the pagan religion that was the last to Christianize. Read the Northern Crusades by Eric Christiansen.
I for one would be happy to read this history of yours.
