answer: Essential Asatru is a pretty basic primer, so is Exploring the Northern Tradition. I don't know the book of prayer
I know Diana Paxson, she is well up on the latest archeology, translations and such. Many Heathens aren't fond of modern takes on Heathenism, you have to determine if you agree or not.
Kveldulf Gundarson's Teutonic Religion is a good book (if a bit overblown, his ego shines through).
For basics - Crossley-Holland's book of Norse Myths, the Prose/Poetic Eddas
can't go wrong with those combined with some of the modern books. Question everything
