Anywhere described to me as "an idyllic land where love songs play constantly" sounds too much like the local mall, no disrespect to Freyja.
I'll take F?lkvangr or better, Valhalla, if I have the choice.
Who wants to die of old age anyway?
Most probably expect Valhalla. But I think that's a "default" way of thinking.
Me? I'm hoping for Bilskirnir, but I'd take Valhalla or Folksvangr if that's where I end up.
The short answer is yes, they expect Valhalla. But Valhalla and Folkvangr are not the only places a Germanic Heathen can go. They can go to Hel, which is not all a bad place, or one of the abodes of punishment in Hel such as Nastrand. There are numerous other places one can go after death in the Germanic and Norse belief systems. Some ancient Heathens believed one could die into the mountains,or live on in the grave mound. Modern Heathens and Asatruar are no different and have a variety of beliefs about the afterlife.
Second to Swains... For many Valhalla is just some sort of heaven... when that isn't at all what it is, or ever was. Same with the halls of the other gods... and in my humble opinion to not want to go to a hall of one of the GODS, because of constant music playing... I'll just leave it at that...
