Default What do you know about Asatru?

Tell me everything you know about them!

What are their gods?

What do they believe about the afterlife?

What are their magical beliefs?

And ANY information you have. I know that it is a Resurrection of the old Pagan beliefs in Scandanavia. Thats about it. I need help from you to fill the gaps.
What!? I can't learn about a different religion? I am sorry, but I don't think I need to repent at your church.

?satr? is thousands of years old. It's beginnings are lost in prehistory, but as an organized system, it is older by far than Christianity. Strictly speaking, since ?satr? is the religion which springs from the specific spiritual beliefs of the Northern Europeans, it is as old as this branch of the human race, which came into being 40,000 years ago. We believe in an underlying, all-pervading divine energy or essence which is generally hidden from us, and which is beyond our immediate understanding. We further believe that this spiritual reality is interdependent with us - that we affect it, and it affects us.

We believe that this underlying divinity expresses itself to us in the forms of the Gods and Goddesses. Stories about these deities are like a sort of code, the mysterious "language" through which the divine reality speaks to us.

You should go see the source!

Their gods are the Norse deities, gods and goddesses like Odin, Thor, Freya, and many more. However, the names may be changed slightly based on the branch of Asatru. Odin can become Wodun, for example.
They believe in an afterlife as depicted in Norse mythology. Those who die in battle go to Odin hall, Valhalla. Those who die of other means become the property of Hel, the goddess of the under-realm. Occasionally, a devout follower may be invited upon death to the hall of the Deity they served in life.
Their magic largely uses runes.
Hope this helps.
