Nice tradition to study, its very inter sting and has long established and written roots. I think is phonically but I could totally be wrong.

Most English-speakers pronounce the name of my religion "A.S.S.-a-true" (inspiring Beavis-and-Butthead humor from some of its detractors). The Icelanders pronounce it differently, which is actually more accurate, "AY-SA-true." Either way the emphasis is on the first syllable.

I call myself a Heathen, which everyone can pronounce. I chose to go this route (though I still identify with the word Asatru I use it a bit less frequently) in part because most folks I know could?t pronounce it. Generally when talking to non-Heathens who are unfamiliar with the religion, I use Heathen or Norse Pagan.

Most I know pronounce it something like Aw-SA-tru. Though I have also heard Ace-a- true. Since I am Theodish and Anglo-Saxon Heathen, I rarely use the term. I prefer Germanic Heathen or Anglo-Saxon Heathen instead. With other Heathens I call myself a Theodsman.
