Why are there so many atheist?

Maybe people within certain denominations have not really shed God in a positive light but why doubt that God exist? Do atheist believe in the devil?
Who said anything about Christian/Catholic or even about forcing a religion on someone? Read the question before answering then come with facts. Thank you...
While I appreciate every body's input, my question is not what atheist believe. The question is: Why are there so many atheist?

Atheists are usually people who center themselves completely in reality and to the laws of science. They don't believe in the devil (technically there isn't really a religion of "Satan/satanism") but they just don't have a belief system. They might believe there are powers around them or powers higher than them, but most likely, these are people who are mainly focused only in the world of logic they see in front of their eyes.
They might give a harsh response if you were to ask them if they believe in god and why they don't believe in a god; but then, how would you feel if someone asked you something and tried to convert you into something you really didn't believe? You can't just think that Christianity/Catholic is the only religion out there and that everyone should experience it.

What you say is true. There are a lot of two-faced believers out there. Thay praise God at church but listen to 50-cent and P-Ditty say its okay to sleep with lots of women at home... it just doesn't mix.

Satain (or one of his other names) is an idea unique to people who follow one of the 3 Abraham faiths (Christians, Jews, Muslums). So a non believer most likely do sent believe in the devil ether. Its funny CZ most of them probably have told someone to "go to Hell" even though they dint believe in the master of Hell.

The only thing anyone can do to keep out of hell is trust in Jesus. There is no nice way to say it but: If you do not beleive in Jesus you will go to Hell. And in this case "beleife" is not meerly a thought, its a lifestyle change, you must obey Him.

Atheist don't believe in god or the devil nor any other kind of religion. They ground their belief in the tan gable here on earth and don't concern themselves with questions of faith.

Athiests believe there is no god. There is no tan gable evidence to prove the existence of a god. Athiests believe there is no devil for the same reason. Its like asking an adult if they believe in the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus or the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

I am an atheist. I wish I could believe in something, but I am from Russia, where the main slogan was: religion is the opium for the people. They would say: cosmonauts went up there and did not see any God. So most Russian people of my generation do not believe in God, or in hell. I am a very rational person and try to give a scientific explanation to any unusual event; and if I can?t ? that means either I am not educated in that particular question, either science still did not find an answer.
Though, Spinoza?s teaching is very close to my understanding of universe and our being.

Define ?so many?. The amount of believers in this world is much bigger than atheists. But it is impossible for everybody to be a believer because of different factors: the time and surroundings where one lives, a big historical or political event, personal circumstances, somebody?s influence, etc.
If you are interested in this question, I think you should do some research: study history, culture, politics and economy of different groups of people.

God has given absolute freedom of belief for man. Even if he believes in a distorted form of truth or even reject GOD, every one is treated equally in this World. So there is no litmus test to find whether is GOD or not. An atheist may believe that his ability to live freely as another religious person as a proof that there is need of any belief. Actually he is wasting his precious time in this world.

There aren't many atheist. At least not as many as there should be.
There are (not so many) atheist because some people still realize, that their life is THEIR life. Why should someone, who was never seen by anybody, meddle in in THEIR lives?

Actually there are not "so many atheists." But if there were, it would be because humanity was finally growing up and giving up on stupid religions.

Objectively analyzing things from a scientific and logical viewpoint will lead most people to atheism. It all has to do with willful ignorance vs. intellectual honesty.

because people are finally realizing there is no god, so stop kidding themselves with fake religions designed to keep the masses in line.
