i was at a church of which i go to and i asked why do you hate atheists. the youth teacher answered why are you an atheist? i say I'm not sure I'm on the border of being one.... she says why i say because you people disagree with gays, abortion ( in some cases i say its OK but i was shunned for that...) you thing age gaps in relationships are horrible, you cant explain these "miracles" and a multitude of other things. Then she says well your looking at the details look at the big picture look around god is everywhere!.... i say um where so hes in the rapes killings beatings and torturing of people is that part of his plan!....then she takes the firkin holy water and rubbed it on my face ( while i was trying to get away) saying let the devil leave you and i will pray for you i said dint and she said you are infected with the social disease that is atheism....WTH..
( I'm 13.... on and off believer/non believer...)
(more on the side of atheism)
i believe in god but disagree with much of the things that the churches and religions want you to believe...
So.... she has an opinion about a belief and this makes her right does it?.....
Well... MY "opinion" for what it's worth is that I should be allowed to lie in bed all day, watch TV, drink as much red wine as I like, have servants prepare my meals & expect other people to attend to my every whim..... however luckily I don't suffer from delusions & realize that this is never going to happen....
Your choice kid.... rationality or crazy people.....
and alternatively you can believe in God and not be part of a religion. What ever works for you, if not believing in any God is it go for it, but yes you have to realize religions tend to have Prue-established accept abilities. This is why I believe in God but not any religion.
Don't go back to that Church, stay away. Unfortunetly, you got with the wrong people who claim to be Christians. It sounds like your looking for answers, look for a far different Church around your area and go and ask! Real Christians will be there to love you and answer your questions! Whatever kind of experience you first had was wrong and sad.
She had no answer for your insightful questions so tried to rub magic water on your face. That should tell you everything you need to know about "believers".
She was right. You have it. You are to ignorant to study the Bible and pray but you like repeating the atheist mantra. You don't have a clue as to what you believe or why.
I think you will find that the position you describe in your additional details is one in which you are not alone. There is lots wrong with churches and religious dogma. They are developed by humans and we're none of us perfect.
The tough questions you ask are ones many people who find themselves believing in a loving all powerful God struggle with. It's confusing and there is are no easy answers. I'm sorry that your youth ad visor made it clear that questions were not welcome. The environment there is not a good one for exploring faith because exploring requires questioning and sometimes even doubting.
I would not be back to that youth group myself, but you need to make your own decisions.
