Default Why do we honest Christians tolerate evil books such as the atheist's book of Darwin?

Shouldn't they all be destroyed and replaced with more God inspired truthful books?

If Christians push intolerance then intolerance will be pushed on Christians.

Maybe without the stupid books we wouldn't know the difference between smart and stupid. With the Darwinian book we can immediately see the difference.

Yes, the only truth is the word of the Lord, our savior, who we can't speak to, see, or hear.

If the truth will not rest in the mind of the wicked, it doesn't matter what books exist

It's not our job. We're here to preach the Good News. Those books won't last. Why waste our times destroying them when God's Word already has done so?

You deal with them for the same reason we deal with the bible. Because we all have the right to our own beliefs, and literature, despite what others think. We may disagree, and we may tell each other we do so, but at the end of the day, we are all human and we all have to live on the same planet.

I do thank you for adding salt to your Christian wounds, suggesting a book burning can't possibly hurt your position at all.

Thanks for my two points.

Humans have free will from our Creator. For any of us to decide for all others what is acceptable or accessible is to go against God's arrangement. Each one of us will have to stand on our own before God's judgment. We would be wise to let it be so.

Shouldn't Christians being worry about their religion and themselves? Maybe we should burn bibles and crosses since we don't believe in it (as someone answered about burning them). Oh that's right, because we know right from wrong without a book. Hmmm.

(1) Shouldn't honest people, Christians and otherwise, be willing to have honest debates over any idea that surfaces? That is the only way to separate good ideas from bad ones. Banning thought never works, and encourages ignorance, anger and eventually evil. You cannot control thoughts and beliefs, only influence them, so banning thought is intellectually dishonest! I don't think Jesus ever spoke in favor of banning books, nor discussion.

(2) Darwin's writing has nothing to do with evil nor atheism. It is an explanation of why life has changed on earth over the eons. There is no conflict between what Darwin wrote and the message of the Bible. Yes, it conflicts with the Genesis record, but not at all with the guidance the Bible provides, and that guidance is what makes the Bible important!

Isn't free will and understanding supposed to be at the forefront of Christian faith?? Everybody is entitled to their own belief and opinion. You say they should be replaced with "more truthful books"? What you mean, is truthful to you, and anyone else who shares the same faith. An atheist believes that their beliefs are the truth. A Muslim believes that the Koran is the truth, and the same goes for any other religion or personal belief. It is unfair to attempt to dictate to others what is truthful and what is not, and I must say, rather hypocritical of you to say the least!!

Christians are called to preach the gospel, not ban books. That's legalism. The Pharisees tried that.

I take it your religion is the only one that is pure and truthful! LOL! That kind of horse manure thinking is why Christianity or religion in general fails in so many ways. Is it also the teachings of the bible for Fathers to molest little kids? Is it also the good book that tells priests to live lavish lifestyle while they swindle money from church and sleep with prostitutes? Get real, how much proof do you have about the existence of GOD, heaven and everything the HOLY book promises? The problem with you religious fanatics is that you just follow the teachings of some old book blindly without proof because you love being herded like a group of cows. Learn to have a mind of your own!

But remember that the wicked have a habit of retaliating and who would decide which books? Good thought though. Things like Darwin's books and the Qur'an certainly should be banned in the US (if we could). Our own lenient laws of freedom of speech and the press are destroying us because the wicked have taken advantage of this and now they are trying to rip the Constitution to shreds. We cannot ban them in other countries. Some day Christ will reign on this earth and then no evil books will be had.
