First off, I'm an Atheist and I've noticed lately the R&S is overrun by disrespectful trolls (including myself) and I feel like, despite how fun it is to mock Christians ignorance, if we wanna try and teach them the truth about religion they would take it to heart if we weren't so rude about it. Don't you think?
I agree Eric. And yes, some Christians are rude first.
You're not capable of avoiding being rude, a sinner can only change by the grace of Jesus through your faith which is unquestionable evidence that the Bible is true.
Mind you, I have been accused of rudeness may times but those accusations came from people who consider any form of disagreement with them offensive, so one needs to consider the source of a criticism before taking it personally.
Rudeness has many definitions on R&S. sometimes it simply means disagreeing. I think calling them names Adan saying they are all stupid is neither true nor helpful. Telling the hard truth about what some of their religions do though may be considered rude , but needs to be done.
You can't 'teach' a Christian their religion is false. They've been indoctrinated to be resistant to all logic and reasoning. The best you can do is point, laugh, and enjoy the show.
People like their own views, most aren't going to take it to heart no matter how you butter them up... they're only going to call you evil for trying to suggest it might not be real and then the cycle continues with throwing sarcasm and mockery back at them for being too weak to withstand differing opinions.
There is a difference between mocking a theist (of any religion) who is ignorant vs mocking someone because he is a theist. I've never done the latter. I will continue to do the former in an effort to encourage a little critical thinking, something that is sorely lacking on this board. Someone can be devoutly religious yet still think before they speak.
I have to disagree. They're going feign of fence as a misdirecting rebuke to reasonable objection to their unreasonable dogma, anyway. Starting out hostile just saves time.
If you don't fuss it up, they completely ignore what's being said and the old "ignore it and it'll go away" trick works a treat, then. They're masters of that ploy and have been getting away with it for years.
There are some really rude Christians too. I do try and talk to atheists and get them to not mock as much because it just makes them look bad and eggs on the Christians to be jerks.
It's not "rude" to honestly answer questions with facts.
But oddly enough, some believers think it's not only "rude," but "offensive" and an "attack."
I can't help what they think.
I don't see what anyone benefits from mocking other people's beliefs. I mean it THEIR beliefs and in only important to them personally. It makes no difference or impact on anyone else. No, I'm not christian, but I'm not an atheist either. I make it my own business not to inflict my beliefs on anyone else. To do otherwise shows not only immaturity but insecurity as well - this includes those who believe in nothing at all.
