I have been reading these questions on Yahoo Answers, and some say stuff about Atheism and Theism. What are those? I know they are religion, of course. If they are something like believing in everything or something, then should I become one of those? I am 14 and gay. An answer on here that someone was an atheist because they were tired of religions that were... well "mean" to gay/bisexual people. Like my last question on here, should I become one of these? Will my parents get mad since they are both Christian?
Like I said, I am gay. I am tired of being in a religion that denies homosexuality. I believe in god, and I support homosexuality. Should I be Theist?
If I am already a Theist(Christianity-wise), then what religion should I take on that believes in God, yet still supports HomoSexuality? I want to be in a religion that isn't mean to homosexuals, like I said.
theism - believing in one or more god(s)
atheism - not believing in any god(s)
agnosticism - not knowing if there is/are any god(s)
It's possible to not know, but believe there might be 1+ god(s) (theist agnostic), or to not know but believe there probably aren't 1+ god(s) (atheist agnostic).
Atheism is intended to mean a lack of belief in a god. However, the evidence suggests more of a hatred for all gods and basing ones life on nothing more than the bottom of a microscope.
Atheism - To be without a god. AKA you don't believe in any higher power. It's technically not a religion because there is not a set of beliefs-only one.
Theism- To be with god. AKA you do believe in a higher power.
Christianity is a form of theism, but it does not support homosexuality. And you should feel obligated to become nothing that you don't want to. It's about what you believe-the rest will just fall into place. And they might, but you just have to keep your religious views on the down low and try to get through it.
A gay Atheist in a Christian House?Wow, I dint usually judge people, but isn't that giving someone the double whammy?
I know for sure they will really be disappointed. This is a total shock, so expect the worst.
Theism is belief in a god - any deity, not just the Christian one.
Atheism is the disbelief in any sort of god.
If you are 14 and gay, I would suggest you check out this organization (BTW, neither theism or atheism are religions in and of themselves) http://www.uua.org
Unitarian Universalist churches are the driving force behind the gay rights movement in the U.S. They created the Standing on the Side of Love organization which promotes the rights of all marginalized individuals, especially LGBT people.
As Christians, your parents are, technically, theists. You don't have to reject the idea of Deity entirely in order to not be involved with any of the religions (which are the 3 Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam) which are mean to gays. There are many other religions in the world. I think you would do well in a Unitarian or Unitarian Universalist congregation.
A theist is someone who believes what they've been told about God, and an atheist is someone who was skeptical and did their own thinking and realized that the God they'd been told about is just a story intended to keep them obedient to their parents and religious authorities.
A theist is a bird in a cage. An atheist is an eagle soaring on wings of delight.
