Why do Atheists try just as hard as Theists to prove their case?
Browsing around here and watching videos on you tube and knowing a few Atheists I've got to ask, why is it that you try just as hard to disprove God, as Theists try to prove God? I mean seriously, can't you guys (both Theists and Atheists) just accept that you believe different things and be done with it? Why send each other huge paragraphs trying to prove or disprove God?
BTW while i believe in the Norse gods, i have no organized religion to preach on you guys, so don't be all like "CUZ THEIST TROLS LIEK U ARE GHEY" or "BECUZ U ARE A ATHEIST DEVIL LUVER"
To Eye of Mars: That is exactly what i mean, are you actually physically incapable of answering a question without bashing religion? Why can't people just accept that some people of their own free will believe in something and that's perfectly acceptable because it's their choice?
Simple. Because the tenets of modern religion are demonstrably false, and making decisions based on assertions not grounded in reality is, well, insane.
Edit: I fail to see the problem in dismissing claims that are patently ridiculous. It's hardly 'bashing' if I point out something that's actually true; that the claims of modern religion can be pr oven wrong.
Now, as for that whole "people have the free will to believe in something", that's dodging the question. It's a response that basically says "You should respect my beliefs because I believe them". That's foolish. If I were to go around saying that I believed I was a chosen prophet of the Almighty Talking Toaster, would you respect those heartfelt beliefs? Would you treat them as though they were true? Hell no, you'd either dismiss me as crazy or call me an idiot. So why should belief in God get a free pass from scrutiny when he's just as unprovable as my Talking Toaster?
I wouldn't ever say any one can 'prove' there is no God any more than I would say I could 'prove' there are no pixies. It is impossible to prove a negative. What I want to do is get people to THINK instead of trust in blind faith. Can you think why that would make the world a better place? You can if you try.
Theists (possibly) try to educate because they believe harm will come if people don't believe in god. Possibly because non-believers will be damned and they genuinely want to help, possibly because they believe one can't have a proper moral society without religion.
Atheists (possibly) try to educate because they believe that religion is harmful. They think that religion causes ignorance, tears down the respectability of science, causes death (e.g. when someone prays for their child to get better instead of treating them with medicine, when wars or acts of terrorism are done in the name of religion).
Of course, there are people on both sides who just like to argue and assert their superiority.
I would have no objection to theists' beliefs if they didn't have the unfortunate habit of constantly attempting to interject their dubious opinions into legislation and public education.
Perhaps you should attempt to get a GED. You obviously cannot read with comprehension and you are a theist. Atheist never try to disprove god. Atheist try to get you to think objectively. They know that if you think objectively about god you will conclude that no god exist.
