I'd like to think it possible, but when the rhetoric is just as biting as it is in politics I severely doubt it. The compartmentalization also plays a factor in it.
its very much possible. alto of my friends are atheist and I'm christian. its more probable for Christians to be friends with atheists actually because they can get a good friendship and save someone at the same time
If as a Christian I couldn't be friends with an atheist I couldn't be friends with baptists, Mormons, JWs, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Taoists, Hindu etc but I am fine with them and atheists.
A good friend of mine is Atheist. I don't agree with it but he's still a good person. He believes in evolution and has a very scientific way of looking at everything. I pray for him everyday still. But it's pretty fun to have debates about his views and mine and seeing each others points of view.
Yes it is possible to get along with Christians, speaking from an atheist point of view. My friends are a majority of them anyway are Christians; my best friend just came out one day to tell me she was upset of my being atheist and she would try to let me see that Christianity is the way to go. At that time I did not argue or reply because she is my friend and I did not want to break our friendship over this topic, she hasn't brought it up since.
its not my friend and I are two different people of different ethnicity's religion and morals but we are still friends. so it is possible even for for Christians and Muslims hell anybody can get along with the right attitude.
