Ofcourse they have. However being an atheist doesn't mean he shot those people because he was an atheist. Correlation doesn't prove causation.

One could say he was also a Satanist, he did have that altar in his backyard. No Atheist would even believe in the Devil, for starters. But you can always weave a good one based on scant factual info.

Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh are being blamed in speeches by liberals who can't keep their mugs out of cameras.

The left has become America's premier hate-mongered. They're not even rational about it any more.

Right. He decided to go on a murderous rampage because his non-god told him to.
I have no idea if the man was an atheist or not, but that seems kind of silly.

@Scooterpoop: Sarah Palin was blamed for the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords because she released a poster with cross hairs over the locations of Democratic Congresspeople that needed to be "taken out". Gabrielle Giffords was one of the people on that poster. Granted, this could have nothing to do with the shooting, but the fact that Sarah Palin took down the graphic immediately after the shooting implies that she knew that she might be responsible.

He was a Jew, a Jewish atheist, but being an atheist doesn't affect your status as a Jew.

No, but the Westboro Baptists ARE ALWAYS claiming it was God who sent them and further proving that He is "mad at the nation."

Stalin: Had a mustache
Hitler: Had a mustache
Marx: Had a mustache
Theodore John "Ted" Kaczynski: Had a mustache
Saddam Hussein: Had a mustache

See! That proves that more people have been killed in the name of mustaches than have been killed in the name of chicken pot pie!

Yes, Fox News almost immediately started talking about him being a radical atheist.

I still have yet to see any credible evidence that the guy was an atheist, let alone a "radical" atheist.

Just some empty on here the day the shooting happened. Like I said to him - one mad man and overly liberal gun laws caused that tragedy.

Well, killing is okay under atheism, since they believe morals are relative. If you be live in evolutionism, then you almost have to kill other people. Survival of the fittest you know!

Was he atheist? Where did you get that information from?

I share your hope, it would indeed be stupid to blame atheism because atheism is simply a lack of belief in a deity. It's not like he attempted to justify his shooting by saying I do not believe in god and my lack of belief gives me the authority to kill people.

You know, I have been waiting for one of the Religious Wrong, or right wing pundits to bring this up. But I have not heard it come into the mainstream conversation.

Probably because they do not want it pointed out that practically all the other ones to date have been Christian. And some have Christian 'reasons' behind their actions.

The interesting thing to me is that this guy did not kill himself and so will go on trial. We will have to see what he says.

I would hope that no one blames Atheists for the Tucson shooting. The shooter, atheist or not, is just a lunatic, home-grown American terrorist.
