Default Atheists: What bearing do the conclusions of Stephen Hawking & those like him have on

Do you think Hawking is someone whom you can put your trust in to explain creation to you? I mean...do you respect his findings as proof to you that a God does not exist?

If not what scientist do you look to.....to give you proof or reasonable evidence from the information provided that God does not exist?

I suppose this will be very different for differing atheists so I suppose I'm asking..as an atheist what has been the biggest motivator in your lack of belief in a God.

If you can give sensible answers I will be grateful. After a while the "cause I have a brain" replies get a bit tired.

Thanks!

If you have a hour to spare, here's a good video on evolutionary theory:

If you are excited and feel your brain expanding, here's one on cosmology:

I try not to let people guide my opinion. Science also doesn't prove that God doesn't exist, it only shows that God wasn't necessary, which is very very different. Science can never prove that God doesn't exist because science deals with natural things.

The biggest motivation in my lack of belief is the lack of evidence for all things supernatural.

I think brilliant people like Hawking only validate what I've already found out on my own.

By definition, an atheist is probably someone who questions why he believes what he believes.

I don't need an "authority' to tell me what to believe, is what I mean.

The biggest motivator for me has been that science, plus my own observation, offers a far, far better explanation of how the world works than religion ever did.

Lightning == electrical discharges or Angels Bowling in Heaven? Hmmmm....let me think.....

I stopped believing God when I was in grade 3. Maybe not flu disbelief, but I began to doubt it. But its just I have noticed if you ask an atheist and a theist how the universe started, atheists will give scientific proof, and evidence, and theories and theists use God as a one word fix-it-all answer. They never give proof, they just say, God did it, how else.

It's just a piece of the puzzle. You'd have to blame reality for contradicting the Bible- science just helps us understand it better.

And man alive, I feel like I have to repeat this every time someone says "proof God does not exist." You cannot prove a negative. Science never claims or attempts to do this. You simply can't prove something does not exist. The burden of proof is on the ones making the claim that it DOES exist. So there is no reasonable evidence that a god does not exist because there such is a complete impossibility.

Now proof that the Judeo-Christian model of God's actions on earth as it exists in our modern Bibles can be compared against science, and it ends up fairing like all other ancient literature that talks about miracles- mythology.

Does it really make sense to go up to someone and say prove God does not exist? That's like saying prove an invisible and unmeasurable object doesn't exist. It's a completely nonsensical request. How can you expect us to take that seriously?

Hawking is one of the smartest men in history and made a living at one of the best universities in the world studying the universe.

And he has no evidence for god

I don't usually look to scientists to base my beliefs on. I use my own logic, for the most part.

Not that Stephen Hawking isn't awesome, though. I just prefer to make my own decisions when it comes to belief.

Hawking cant even help himself out of misery with his science, and still try to outsmart God. What a pity and shame !

Atheists was described in the bible as fools, with foolish ideology. The basic Atheism belief can be summed up as follows:

Atheism - the belief that there was nothing and nothing happened to nothing and then nothing magically exploded for no reason, creating everything magically rearranged itself for no reason whatsoever into self-replicating bits which then turned into dinosaurs.

Does this make perfect sense to you ?
