The enlightenment is under threat. So is reason. So is truth. So is science, especially in the schools of America. I am one of those scientists who feels that it is no longer enough just to get on and do science. We have to devote a significant proportion of our time and resources to defending it from deliberate attack from organized ignorance. We even have to go out on the attack ourselves, for the sake of reason and sanity. Of course, excellent organizations already exist for raising funds and deploying them in service of reason, science and enlightenment values.But the money that these organizations can raise is dwarfed by the huge resources of religious foundations such as the Templeton Foundation, not to mention the tithe-bloated, tax-exempt churches.

Atheists don't have a pope. No one is 'in charge' of that group. You are a dork. And who the heck is Dorkins anyway? Give a first name and a link and why you think he would be 'head' of an atheist movement or such.
why the Ad homonym attack on Dawkins? why is it when a guy gives his thoughts on religion and his own lack of belief to the public he is called a dork, or mean or obnoxious, but when religious leaders you know do bad stuff like cover up sexual abuse of minors, or get caught with a same sex prostitute (not that gay sex is a bad thing but when they are a religious leader who preaches against it it certainly is hypocritical at least) , or marry a nine year old girl them self or off to a member of their flock well you get the idea, they are still OK people and we should still respect what they say
