Default If getting rid of religion is Atheism's main plan, how can they solve humankind's pro

They cannot stop wars or killing.

For a fact, humankind's main problem is: suffering, hatred, death and illness.
They cannot stop these. How will getting rid of religion solve the suffering of all mankind?

What CAUSED suffering? This is probably what everyone wondering.
Then who is planning on getting rid of religion? The government?

Hitler didn't end suffering, he caused millions to suffer from starvation in concentration camps. It was horrible back then.
I never said atheism was a religion.

Well, basic sanitation doesn't cure disease, but it helps, for instance.

If we presume that religion might be a form of mental illness, then it makes some sense to wish for its disappearance.

Suffering is caused, says the Buddha, by human grasping in one form or another. Greed, hatred and delusion, the 3 poisons that afflict us from the moment we are born.

The end of suffering will require us to defeat these 3 poisons HERE on earth.

I'd use logic and science. They have already done a much better job than religion.

You do realize religion and beliefs are the sole cause of all these wars correct? Even over slavery. There were people who actually thought it was "gods" will to enslave colored people.

Religion hasn't fixed those problems either.

Atheism doesn't have a plan, we just simply don't believe. I think Catholics have a plan though, somewhere along the lines of abolishing anti molesting laws. Oh how happy those priests will be
Oh, and Tyrone still hasn't got it together.

atheism is not a plan. And there is no organized Atheism.

Some Atheists would be happy to see religion go, some don't mind it, Some embrace the philosophies of certain religions and some just do not care.

Some Atheists are actually religious, such as Buddhists, Taoist, and some Pagans.

I know many atheists. Not one of us wants to get rid of religion. Many of us (Including myself) do volunteer work with churches.

We just don't believe in god.

Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Rational thought will stop a lot of the world's problems, including stopping war, killing, and hatred. Problems based in emotions will disappear when people start thinking rationally.

I never said that getting rid of religion was my main plan. I would like religion to not infringe on my rights (my right to marry my girlfriend etc.). But my main aim is to make the world a better place when I leave it to when I came into it, even if that's just for one person.

Tao wrote, "I'd use logic and science. They have already done a much better job than religion."

Hitler tried that same approach. He must have done a pretty good job at ending suffering, right? (obviously I'm being sarcastic- of course Hitler made things worse).

Sin has caused our suffer ring.

Yet, I theorize that if all religion, race, class, ideology, height, etc... were too be eliminated that humans would STILL kill each other.

We will always find something that divides us into groups and causes us to hate each other.

Atheism isn't a religion, nor does it have a dogma or purpose. It is merely the lack of god beliefs. Not believing in unicorns won't stop wars either. That doesn't mean there is a reason to believe in unicorns.

But, atheism is often a side effect of critical thinking, empiricism and education which do indeed lessen suffering, bigotry, prevent death and illness. Religion did not bring us germ theory. It did much to promote inequality and irrational hatreds and fears. It did not give us democracy, but kept us for centuries in the thrall of kings who claimed divine rights. When you argue against atheism, you argue against rational thought, skepticism and open mindedness. Religion is superstition and Bronze or Iron Age dogma. Do you really think those things will help humanity to progress?

EDIT: TR1611, nice attempt to Godwin this thread. Hitler was a Christian and wrote and spoke often of killing Jews being God's work. He was an insane and bigoted tyrant, not a man of science or logic.

Without suffering you wouldn't be here since your ancient ancestors wouldn't have evolved without going through some sort of suffering.

You're welcome.

Atheism is an insignificant minority - a cult almost in the number of followers and amount of power they have. They have yet to propose anything that will help anybody realistically. Their answer to everything is "ME" then whatever Dawkins has brainwashed them with this week.

Atheism always has been a weed in civilizations but the best thing to do is ignore the virulent ones. .

If everyone turned their lives over to God and believed Jesus. sacrifice.........

Life would be Grand! ( =0)

Ponder on that. God created you. Jesus died for you. Yet, you allow Satan
to rule you? Come on now. It disgusts me.
