Default Why do atheists accept the Big Bang Theory when a Catholic priest at a Catholic Unive

Why do atheists accept the Big Bang Theory when a Catholic priest at a Catholic University came up with it?

Because it's backed up by mountains of facts and evidence. Doesn't matter who came up with the theory--it's either correct or incorrect.

(I see we've got yet another deep-thinking theist on our hands.)

Because his Catholicism has nothing to do with it -- see also: Poisoning the Well Fallacy.

Darwin was a Christian too. The source of the person doesn't matter if its backed up by evidence.

Also, atheists don't necessarily accept the Big Bang Theory either.

Science is science. Who came up with what theory is meaningless so long as the science is accurate.

And thank you for automatically assuming we're bigots.

Because science is based on evidence, not authority. Newton was a theist, but that does not undermine classical physics.

Why would that matter? There have been plenty of religious scientists.

I am not a scientist myself, but I know scientific consensus represents our best knowledge of what is true. Once an idea is part of scientific consensus, that idea belongs to more than just one person.

Why does everyone accept laws of motion when an occult alchemist came up them. Of that is right, be cause they bear out under scrutiny.

If it sounds logical and has evidence to support it I don't care who came up with it

Well anyone would be stupid to deny it because there is evidence of it in the universe. It doesn't really go against materialism either.

A viable scientific theory is a viable scientific theory, regardless of who it comes from?

For the record, most atheists have no problem with Christians, Catholic or Protestant. It's only the anti-theists who crack me up; they say that Christians are stupid and have never done anything worthwhile, and then in the next breath talk about their acceptance of the Big Bang Theory. Hilarious!

The real question is why the Catholic priest didn't renounce his religion in the face of contradictory evidence that he himself brought forth.

You mean it's backed up by mathematical theory.

Your question doesn't make sense. Most of your medicines were first created by "witches".... the "creators" religion doesn't have a thing to do with whether or not it's true.

Well, the evidence was gathered by people with no religious affiliation. Besides, there are plenty of Catholics who are well-recognized for their scientific and engineering expertise; their religion does not affect their professional work at all.

Why does the source have anything to do with the validity of the claim?

If you reject things just because you don't like the source, you may as well move into a cave...

One of the many reasons bigotry is a bad joke... no matter who practices it and for what reason...

IMHO

The test of a scientific theory is whether it explains the data.

What difference does it make who came up with it?

Because the validity of a scientific theory is independent of its authorship.

If its right, its right.

Because being Atheist is not a prerequisite for being a scientist.
