Default How is my being an atheist harming those who follow a religion?

I am an atheist but I do not pretend that I have all the answers or that evolution or science answers all the questions of the world. I believe that everyone should be free to believe or not believe whatever they want. I have never felt the need to insult someone who doesn't share my views. However I wonder why it's fair for some people to insult me or another atheist simply because we don't believe you like you believe? Why do some of you feel the need to call us stupid or tell us we are going to hell? Why can't you let us believe what we want to believe or not believe and we'll do the same for you.
To everyone who answered thanks

To Fireball: No one made you answer my question and yes this question was actually about me so I suggest you are the one who needs to get over yourself.

It does fray the edges of society really. Why do you think that heathens were executed for Milena, and anything contrary to religion was seen as a threat? The easiest way for religion to remain in control is to kill off any other voice that is contrary.

Not to say that I am not an Atheist as well, but historically we did not have freedom of religion, or lack thereof, until recently.

Doesn't hurt me. Normally, it's not the average theist calling the atheist stupid. It's usually the other way around. Stupid, deluded, irrational, illogical...etc. Also, who am I to say who's going to hell and who's not? I'm not God.

Your belief is your belief.

But if Christians are calling you stupid, and they do, it is their way of showing you the love of Jebus. It's the same for Islam, and Judaism..

"God is on my side, and if you don't believe as I do, I will kill you."

And historically this is exactly what has happened.

A pox on all three of their houses.

Because your talking about the biggest hypocrites that have ever walked this planet, the Christians. It's their way or you're wrong, yet with over 30,000 different denominations even they don't know what their way is.

They just have a phobia of logic and reason because the slightest suggestion of reality shatters their entire concept of the world.

It doesn't. Harm those who have a different belief then you.
But, speaking of fair, please please don't judge all those who believe in a God by those who are rude, controlling, disrespectful, etc.

why do atheists disrespect Christians or Islam when a question is not directed at them and harass user with their "there is no God" remarks. and call us names for believing in what we believe in?

I've seen both side be ignorant but I've never seen a more disrespectful group of people the the atheists.

Just pick any question that has nothing to do with an atheist in R&S and look at all their disrespectful remarks and put downs. it's 10 to 1 in comparison to other groups.

EDIT: SEE! you just did it yourself, I just answered a question directed at Christians and there YOU was answering a question not directed at you. THAT IS DISRESPECTFUL

Telling you about Hell is not an insult, its a warning and we say that because we dint want you to go there. I dint call you stupid or insult your intelligence because there is no need for it. You are free to believe or disagree if you like.

God allows everyone to choose to believe what they want. As a Christian, I can not force anyone to believe in Jesus but, I do want everyone to know about Him so that they can decide. I would never call you stupid just because you don't know Him.

God tells people who reject Jesus that they are not saved from Hell. Not my words but, His. Neither God or I can tell you what you must believe or not believe.

John 3:16-18 (New International Version,

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God?s one and only Son.

Jesus came because He loves you.

Why do Democrats insult Republicans and vice verse? Or why do liberals insult conservatives and vice verse? It is the same with believers and nonbelievers. What we believe or not believe forms and shape our values and both believers and nonbelievers want their values to influence society; indeed lots of believers want their beliefs to dominate society. When I say believers I am talking about most religions and when I say nonbelievers I am referring to Atheist. But believers are also in contention with other believers, or people belong to other religions. It?s all about which beliefs will dominate society. A competition for God, which God, or no-God.

you being an atheist does not bother me one bit...but to the overly zealous, free thinking scares them by making them think they could be wrong.

Because you're pointing out that there is no man behind the curtain, and that is the one truth they fear the most.

That's what they believe:

Psalm 14:1 1 The fool says in his heart, ?There is no God.? They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.

as a christian we do not have the right to judge anyone, it is our main purpose to get the word of God out there. As a believer in Christ, i feel sad for atheist because of what i believe is going to happen in the end. If a Christian is judging you then when they are being judged by God then they will have to answer to that. Matthew 7:1-2; "Judge not, that you may not be judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
