Default Does this help explain why atheists care what people believe?

http://rockbeyondbelief.com/2011/03/07/demand-equal-treatment-for-the-armys-non-religious-soldiers/

Not only is it blatant favoritism, but a clear lie from the base commander. The non-religious - especially non-theists - are often treated like second class citizens here in the US. Why do people expect us to be quiet about it?

I think we're supposed to shut up and accept our second-class status.

This is one of the many reasons why religion should be abolished.

Yes, it does. It also clearly illustrates the need to raise our voices.

Neoantiatheism is the heir of classical antisemitism.

Religious Freedom, but only for us.

That right there is the political mantra of Evangelical Christianity.

EDIT: Aww... "rate this comment" is going to be oh-so-pleased when he learns that the over 50% of his professional colleagues are strong atheists.

That pisses me off. Freedom of religion includes freedom from religion.

I do not have to agree with how you believe to agree that how you are treated is unfair. DO not keep quiet, raise a fuss, and get your fair share of time. It is not my place, their place or anyone Else's place to tell you that you can not think or feel the way you do, and oh yeah, taking it to court, remind them of a little thing called separation of church and state. If they wish to continue to be supportive on one side, they will have to support the other.

There's a difference between being respectful about voicing your wishes and opinions and being outright rude. Though it's a cliche example, MLK brought about social reform through peaceful and respectful means. If atheists want to be treated better, then maybe they should stop ridiculing Christians for their beliefs. If both sides start taking each other seriously, incidents like the one in your article will stop occurring.
