If atheists dint want to believe in something they do not feel is real, why discuss it? Did they come to this forum because they have doubts about their unbelief?
All the new questions appear on the home site, whichever forum it is placed in. So if an annoying religious question pops up, then anyone can answer. Sorry about that.
No, Atheists think religious ideas are so stupid that they fell they must speak out against them
also, people like discussions where both sides feel strongly on opposing views.
I am an atheist and I like discussing religion with Christians because I believe they are wrong and it is funny to listen to their crap arguments for Gods existence
Religion is nothing to do with spirituality...just as a belief in atheism is nothing to do with spirituality.
Atheisim is a lack of belief in a higher power (mostly the way God is described in most religions as a human God). Given some thought, they might consider the energies of God to be a reality.
I kinda think that, for hundreds of years, we have not questioned our religions. Then, it seems that we begin to question all about evolution, etc. and all this research is done about how we evolved without a god, etc. I think they bring it up because they believe they have so much more "proof" than we do.
Atheism is a religion. It's a belief in no God. I think that atheists want to discuss religion because deep down they know that God exists and really do want to be convinced of this fact. The resistance they show is due to peer pressures and insecurity of just being who they really are and just admitting what they ultimately know to be true.
Most of them discuss about God because they are unsure it exist or not, mostly trying to convince them self they're right
A true atheist just minds his own business and leave others to think what they want....at least that's what i do
Yes,of course they have right about their unbelief. They are the most insecure people on earth who keep telling themselves that God does not exist. They have a bully like behavior, never accepting that other people exist. They behave like fundamentalists when UT comes to openness.
It seems there is a range of reasons. Some atheists harbor strong resentment and disgruntlement towards religion. Typically, the reactive responses you see on these boards has little to do with their logic and more to do with emotion. I am not in any way putting down Atheist's intelligence. Only that many comments are reactive and emotion driven.
The other end of the spectrum is the sincere desire to discuss religion in an effort to show why it is false, in order to enlighten those who are religious. It is actually almost exactly the same as such religious efforts such as evangelizing. They are just evangelizing their own beliefs.
Maybe your question can all be rolled up in that - Atheists discussing religion are trying to evangelize their beliefs to the religious. Some do it by spitting and spouting bigotry, while others approach it logically.
In my opinion, any Atheist who responds with their beliefs is evangelizing. I am only driven to this conclusion because, roles reversed, Atheists would certainly call religious people evangelize rs in the same situation.
It is good to note here how less often the religious side will evangelize with the hate that the Atheist side more than occasionally uses on these boards.
Well, as an atheist(one who believes that which is tangible) I mostly come on here to screw around with you Christians. It seems that you are all too ignorant to decide for yourselves what to believe, rather than what was a story that has been blown out of proportion. The bible, Quran, etc. were stories that were supposed to en still in people at the time, a set of moral values. Now it is used to start wars, hate crimes, protests, etc. So why? To pretty much waste your time and laugh at you. If I am so wrong, why doesn't "GOD" strike me down somehow, make my life miserable. It has been a much better life deciding my own path rather than following a book.
Cannot say i blame some of them - so many fairy tales and old wives tales about God and his Kingdom - so many churches, so many different views..who will take time to speak to them and try to help ? One God, one faith one baptism, one Son.
I like to study and analyze religions---sociological, psychological and anthropological basis, etc., plus, I do enjoy hearing about the various beliefs that people have on various religions. :-)
my guess is that some atheists wish to convert religious people to their way of thinking, much as some religious people wish to convert none believers to their way of thinking.
i also surmise that some atheists wish to air their views just as believers wish to vent theirs.
perhaps if we were Arly agnostics, there would be fewer arguments on the grounds of religion, and then we could discuss more practical things such as "how come not everyone in the world has easy access to clean running water on tap?"?
Atheists will challenge believers, as a way to maintain their self-confidence in their beliefs. It is their way to reinforce their self-confidence in their beliefs... if they can convince someone to believe as they do... sort of misery loves company... then they have won... and some do it just to be mischievous...
