No, this type of person has never affected me this way and I?vie been an Atheist for nearly 50 years. This is a fairly common reaction when some people (not all) make a conversion to anything. A person quits smoking or drinking or quits running around.
Once many years ago a friend of mine since grade school made a conversion to a fairly restrictive religion. Prior to that conversion he had been one of the toughest guys you?d ever not want to meet. Smoking, drinking, fighting, running around, using a heavy hand on his family. After that conversion he changed and drop all of those things. As with many such people this was an important event in his life and he wanted to talk about it. Most people always found reasons to go other places than talk.
We were in our mid thirties at this time and he would come talk to me. He knew I was an Atheist but he needed someone to talk with and I did?t mind. Over a period of about 8 months his intensity settled down and he did?t press it so much with other people. I knew that none of his talking would bother me one way or the other and the talking did seem to help him.
There is nothing anyone of a religious bent can say or do that impacts my Atheism. I certainly don?t anticipate changing them and don?t try. Only small percentage of people can be an Atheist, so why worry about them, they?re doing the best they can.
