Default Atheism as a religion?

Athiests, I have been noticing, have been doing the same things that they yell at Christians for doing. They are constantly posting things like "why are you wasting time with the bible?" etc. Since WHEN is Athieism its own religion. I was on an Athiest web page and it was saying things like "when someone says the word God, you should respond, God is imaginary." Isn't that the same thing as preaching? I may be confused but I thought Athiests were pretty much against (don't believe in) any kind of organized religion so why is it that lately, Atheism is becoming more and more like what they are against??
I'm not a Christian, please don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to attack Athiests. In fact, I AGREE with Athiest more when it comes to my beliefs. But it just seems that some are being extremely hypocritical...please give me your opinions.

Please forgive all my gross generalizations. I know that not ALL Athiests are like this.
Thanks guys! I am really liking (most of) the answers! In case anyone who is curious the PageGE was referring to was www.godisimaginary.com
to me it seemed very ignorant. Listing "because Jesus is a jerk" as a PROOF that God doesn't exist.
missinglincoln: Please understand I was not trying to "cheapen Atheism by calling it a religion" as you said. I was simply asking a question.

when i answer questions about religion i just say that i am an atheist. I try not to force my beliefs on anybody, but i probably have. I think people want to be like everybody else but they are unwilling to change. So they must change everybody else

Also atheism is defined as somebody who denies the existence of god. I guess that means we are supposed to deny that it is at all possible

Atheism is a religion of sorts, but more like a cult (my personal opinion). They believe in not believing. Agnostics believe in not being sure until they find proof.

I am an atheist and any true atheist would not preach like that. Those people are probably just looking for attention or they do not know what to believe so they chose to attack someone Else's beliefs. I generally stay out of the religion v. atheism debate... although if anyone wants to talk about it I am happy to give them my reasons for my beliefs... but I will refrain from attacking them or their religion. That is what a true atheist would do anyway.

according to Roy Wood Sellars Atheism is a religion as he stated it in the document that explains the tenets of Atheism. It is titled Humanist Manifesto and he wrote it in 1933 he had also written previously The Next Step in Religion in 1918. He is quoted as saying "The coming phase in religion will reflect man's power over nature and his moral courage int he face of the facts and possibilities of life. It will be a religion of action adaption, a social religion, a religion of goals and prospects. It will be a free man's religion, a religion for an adult and aspiring democracy." They even have a humanist Bible aka Humanist Manifesto I, this is why they do alto of the same things fundamentalists do...

In some peoples mind God is in the same class as the tooth fairy or Santa Claus, so there can be no bad or good.

Some atheists can get a bit rabid in their atheism, granted. I don't view atheism (or at least, my atheism) as a religion. It is just a word for a lack of belief in a deity---at least for myself. It's a label, not a religion.

The last time I visited an atheist website is two or three weeks ago. I don't visit atheist web pages all that much, so I would not know about what all they say there....albeit I have an idea, LOL!

I tend to stay out of this "Us vs. Them" mentality, but at times, it gets hard for me to get sucked into it, trying to keep the peace and explain a few concepts. Both sides suffer from the "Us vs. Them" mentality.

Not all the atheist came forward when this question was asked and some of names on here are not recognized by me. The ones who are not recognized are true atheists that don't start trouble and mock Christians.
