No, Bahais are not expected to be vegetarians.
Conversion is something you do for yourself. There's no ritual involved. Just make the decision, and start living the Bahai life, as best you can.
If you want to also join the Bahai community, naturally you have to let them know. If you are in the USA there's a web site for registering (Bahais call it "declaring", as in making a declaration of belief and commitment). In most other countries you fill in a form called a "declaration card" and get registered with the nearest local Bahai community. You can see English and Spanish declaration forms of youth and adults here :
http://teaching.bahai.us/2008/02/downloadable-declaration-and.html
The form differs in different countries, because the Bahai community works on the principle of decentralizing whatever can be decentralized. In the Netherland's there's a card to fill in, but next door in Belgium there's no card. I think that in just about any country, just writing a letter saying you want to be a Bahai, and a little of what you understand about it, would be acceptable.
Look for Bahais locally, and look at some Bahai internet forums such as Planet Bahai and
Bahai Forums.
What living the Bahai life entails: daily prayer, some form of meditation, reading the Bahai Writings, fasting from sunrise to sunset for one Bahai month every year (March 2-20), lots of social events just before the Fast (that's now, don't delay or you'll miss it), and a New Year Party on March 21. ?Don't backbite or gossip, don't drink alcohol (except in prescribed medicines), try to model your life on the example set by Abdu'l-Baha. Which is a tall order: work for peace and harmony, with the people around you, all the way up to world peace and banishing social prejudices.
This link will introduce you to Bahai Forums, and the posting contains links to all sorts of resources:
