Well for one thing, Buddhism has no gods, but Hinduism does. Buddhism has the 8 fold path, Hinduism doesn't.

(fairly similar to Jesus saying "god loves everyone, even sinners") The second is because prince Siddhartha (or in Christianity's case Jesus) had a group of followers the felt that changes should be made to the old ways, and it would benefit others.
