Buddhism is about awakening the seven Charis, looking for answers within oneself and not among your peers.

this is one of my favorite Buddhist quotes: Do not believe something simply because you have heard it. Do not believe anything simply because it has been handed down for many generations. Do not believe anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe anything simply because it is written in Holy Scriptures. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of teachers, elders, or wise men. Believe only after careful observation and analysis, when you find that it agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all. Then accept it, and live up to it.

~The Buddha~

Namaste,
I find my attitude is close to the Dalai Lama's
when asked this. I emphasis the compassionate nature of Buddhism, whether Mahayana, Theravada, or Vajrayana.

There are different types of Buddhism. Most Buddhist do not believe in a supreme Deity. Buddhism is about the "inner path", the path to enlightenment through the purification of the heart and mind. Thus, Buddhists goal is to reach a state of transcendental awareness.

The Only religion that preaches and PRACTISES Non-Violence.They do not preach "Thy shall NOT kill" and kill 65 million innocent people in two world wars of the same or related Religions.Buddhists have no Army-Navy-Air-Force or Nukes. They don't practice "Terrorism". Because of their Non-Violence they lost their hold in India, Pakistan, Bangla Desh,Nepal Myanmar(Burma) ) ,Laos ,Campuchea,Korea,China and Japan. I am not a Buddhist .

It is the greatest philosophy on earth.

The ultimate truth and way to real freedom.

Buddhism

Buddha did not represent another powerful invisible figure to preach his knowledge and was his own master. To the layman he taught how to live a good, sincere, happy and a purposeful life and proposed some guidelines to follow to achieve these objectives. Those who do good deeds are rewarded with positive results and vice verse he said. He also said those who want to improve the mind should practise to eliminate selfishness, hatred, anger and ignorance. He said right view, right resolve, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration will lead to cessation of sorrow and to attain Nirvana the ultimate peace.
