Chinese and Indian sailors had contact with the middle east during that period so it's a possibility he would have been aware of it.

i do think he know bout it, cos he has advise Muslim to learn even if we had to reach China( I think China were advance during that time), and he also has dream of a cool breeze coming from Sind( region in India)
