Default Why do people say Buddhism is from Nepal ?

Buddha might have been born in modern day Nepal(near in do-nepal border),but that doesn't make either Buddha or Buddhism a Nepali. In ancient times there was no Nepal and the whole of south Asia was called as India.Secondly Buddha established Buddhism in Bodh Gayla in Bihar state of India and not to mention 3 out of 4 holiest Buddhist sites are in India.

Because that's what the place is called now, and that's how people now a days know about this place.

Most educated people know that Buddhism is totally Indian in its origin and all of the main Buddhist masters were Indian and most were Brahman sages.

You are absolutely correct.

In contemporary times, however, people seem to equate Buddhism with Tibet and Nepal, while they equate India to Hinduism.

If you do a modest research you will find India didn't exist as we know it today In the time of Lord Buddha it was a place of small independent states and Lord Buddha's Father ruled the small state of the Sakya clan
Is this friendly rivalry between Nepal and India Lil
