Default What exactly is the point of Buddhism?

I have actually read a lot about Buddhism, and I am really not sure how to explain it. What is the goal of Buddhism? To eliminate suffering? To achieve enlightenment? To reach Nirvana? To show compassion toward other people? To pay homage to the Buddha?

All of the above, but primarily, to 'wake up'.

A little of all of those things but the Buddha has no aspiration to be your God.

Love and blessings don

"To achieve enlightenment" WHICH IS "reaching Nirvana" WHICH "eliminates suffering" BY "showing compassion toward other people" AS TAUGHT BY "the Buddha".

You had them all there ... just needed to connect them.

Cheers

Buddhism addresses desire as the cause of all suffering. Thus, eliminating your earthy desires with end your suffering.

To eliminate suffering caused by false beliefs. Buddhism's end goal is to enter a mindset where you are content in all events.

To eliminate suffering by freeing yourself from the cycle of death and rebirth.

Escape from pain, which will lead to death which is seen as nirvana rather than endless cycles of reincarnation

The goal of Buddhism is Gurkha-nirodha, the cessation of suffering.

The point of Buddhism is to end suffering for all beings.

Paying homage to anyone is not part of Buddhism.

Take care

The Buddha was often told by others that he was one thing or another. Some said he was a nihilist. Some said he was an atheist. He often said though that he taught just one thing: The ending of stress. All else comes naturally with such an unbinding. One free of stress has no motive for evil acts, no motive for reincarnation, and nothing else to do but experience peace and maybe teach it to those who will listen. The ending of suffering, enlightenment, and Nirvana are all the same thing: the ending of stress.
