Those must be Thai practices predating Buddhism. Buddhism adopts regional practices because the rituals have meaning in the minds of people, just like language. Such rituals are different everywhere.

Theravada (predominant in Thailand) does not teach such things, and there's nothing in Buddhist dogma prescribing such practices.

With in any religion, when you get into areas where life is difficult and people are uneducated, they look for "magic" to help them.

Even with a non-magic religion such as Buddhism, people lay their hopes for magic help on top of the religion.

They expect the religion to provide this ... and since the religion needs the support of the people, they give it. That doesn't mean, though, that magic was part of the original teachings.

since Thai Buddhism belong from Theravada Buddhism school. i dint think they are full of mystical ism and practicing occult and practise Black and White magic and amulets because their main activities are called four notions and main practice are passingAnaich avoid all these accuss you made. these practice has no capacity to produce any magic or miracle according to buddhism. Thai buddhist are very much know by their practice "Vippasana". the one which can produce miracle in mostly from very very very deep shamata practice. but all buddhist master use to say dont attach to the result or expereinces of shamata or else you ll not reach nirvana. and Vippasana is the only way to nirvana other wise even hinduism religion do have the shamata practices. that is one of the separation between hinduism and buddhism.

They do not practice "Occult" They practice spiritualism. Why do people ASSUME that magic is black and white. Black Magic is magic practiced from full moon to new moon while white is from new moon to full. It has nothing to do with good or bad, but the timing. Green has to do with working with plants and herbs. Brown usually denotes work with the earth such as crystals and the like. I suggest you learn before making assumptions.
