Default Question relating to Buddhism?

Can you help explain a little of what Buddhism is all about?
If you know any books on Buddhist philosophy and lifestyle, practices, etc I would love to know them. Also, if you happen to know about Hindu philosophy/belief also, that would be great

BQ: Are Buddhism and the Hindu faith compatible with evolution?

You might want to try "The Guide to Happiness" by the Dalai Lama.

Hinduism has a creation myth that is compatible with Evolution.

Buddhism essentially chalks it up as something that is completely irrelevant to the philosophy, and therefore it doesn't matter.

Buddhism is more of a philosophy than a religion.

There is an excellent book called "The Idiots Guide to Buddhism" that explains things in relatively easy terms.

Buddhism is about as closely related to science as a philosophy can be.

I don't know a great deal about Hinduism, so I don't think I can help you there.

But like the first answer said, anything by the Dahli Lama is a great read and can be taken as Buddhist philosophy.

Their lifestyle is basically that you don't harm another living thing. We all on our own journey through life and we all have different paths that lead to different places. Buddhism encourages questions and knowledge as a way to find your path, and if your path leads away from Buddhism, that's okay because your path is your path.

Buddhism in Asia is quite a bit different than Buddhism in the Western Hemisphere. I don't know a lot about Eastern Buddhism except that they use prayer wheels as part of their meditation rituals.

Buddhism uses meditation as a way to find enlightenment, or find true peace within yourself. Some aspects of Buddhism also believe in reincarnation in a very similar way that Hinduism does.

Buddhism is pretty much compatible with any belief system since it requires no universal god, just a personal one if need be. It's more a way of life.

I don't think it has any views on evolution, to be honest. I don't think I've ever come across anything as to what Buddhism teaches about the origins of life.

For my sect of Buddhism see http://www.nichirendaishoninsbuddhism.com/

And yes Hinduism and Buddhism coexist very well with evolution. Buddhism has impermanence, and I have heard the incarnations of Vishnu are similar to the various states of organisms during the long process.

Buddhism is about Love and Kindness at its core.
If one is aware of these simple acts in a daily life then all study is actually a moot point.
Though knowledge does enrich our deeper understanding of ripple effect if one veers from these basic human qualities. Much more of course.
Buddhism is compatible with science. Science is discovering what Buddhism says about light as direct experience in Buddhist practice.

Here are some links to articles that might help:

This one is an overview of the various Buddhist traditions with some book recommendations at the end:

The next articles are about Brahmanism and how it led to Hinduism and how Buddhism borrowed from and critiqued Brahmanism:

You will find other articles about the Buddha's life and teachings here:

As far as evolution goes - most Buddhists that I know have no problem with evolution. I certainly don't.

Buddhism is just about evolution 'cause and effect'. I mean 'cause and effect' are in evolution too. Buddhist explanation about human history is sort of evolutionary events.

edit: http://www.reference.com/browse/Buddhism
you can find Hinduism here too.
