I, myself, am attempting to learn the ways of a Buddhist. I found a website that can really help you learn it, and also just simply try Wikipedia.

As Buddha said if you wanna convert you have to have sufficient knowledge of it.I recommend this web site.At least the Basic idea.
http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/index.htm

When you feel that you are ready to convert. Please read this website.
http://buddhism.about.com/od/becomingabuddhist/a/noconversion.htm

After you convert do not forget to treat your previous teachers as you did before.
Thanks
Hope this helps!

One does not "convert" to Buddhism. Conversion is a Christian concept ... you take the religion on faith, and make a commitment to it.

But with Buddhism, you are not supposed to use faith. You are supposed to do your practice, and after a while you will start to understand what Buddhism is teaching you. Instead of faith, you have knowledge. This is why one does not convert.

Buy some books ... use Amazon.com, where you can buy books cheaply. The Internet is an awful source of information, especially for Buddhism.
For starters, I would read anything by the Dalai Lama or Pema Chodron ... but I practice Tibetan Buddhism. Others who might practice Theravadan Buddhism or Zen would recommend different books. The important thing is that any of these schools will help you move down the path.

Here's a couple Buddhist websites which may be helpful for you in learning about the Path of The Buddha.

*HTTP://www.buddhanet.net/ - go to Buddhist Studies, then on line Buddhist Study guide: a self-study course on Buddhism based on the Historical Buddha, His Teachings, and Buddhist History & Culture.

*HTTP://what-buddha-taught.net/ - Ajahn Chah, Henepola Gunaratana, Ajahn Sumedho {on The Four Noble Truths), Ayya Khema, Thich Nhat Hanh and Bhante Dr. K. Sri Dhammananda {*What Buddhists Believe) are some excellent teachers to learn from.

*I've included a few Buddhist Books, which may also be helpful in learning The Buddha's Path.

**"What The Buddha Taught: Revised and Expanded Edition with Texts from Suttas and Dhammapada. -By: Walpola Rahula.

*"Buddhism For Beginners." By: Thubten Chodron - teaches the Essence of Buddhism, the Life of The Buddha, Love and Compassion, Beginning Meditation, Impermanence and Suffering, Selflessness, Science/Creation/Rebirth, Karma: the functioning of cause and effect, The Buddhist Traditions {ie: Theravada, Mahayana, Pure Land, Zen, Vajrayana, etc.), Steps Along the Path, Working With Emotions, Dharma in Everyday Life, Women and The Dharma, Family & Children, Spiritual Teachers, Prayers and Rituals. She also has an excellent sequel to this book called:
"Open Heart, Clear Mind."

*'Mindfulness in Plain English' By: Henepola Gunaratana - is a how to manuel on the practice of Vipassana (Mindfulness) Meditation - covering how to meditate, what to do with your body, what to do with your mind, dealing with distractions during meditation, what the difference is between Sati (mindfulness) and concentration, and the practice of Loving-kindness Meditation.

*Becoming a Buddhist: How do you become a Buddhist? Practice The Noble Eightfold Path daily: then when your ready - take refuge in the Three Jewels: the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha and The Five Precepts.

IF there is no temple in your area, you can take refuge on your own; this website explains how to take Refuge in the Three Jewels {Tripple Gem) and The Five Precepts:

May all beings be happy and free from suffering.
