He was born into a highly wealthy family and while traveling saw sick people and poverty for the first time and it bothered him.

He was a prince and he was very protected and lived in opulence and wanted for nothing. He left his palace and saw the people who were suffering in the world and became deeply moved by this, and he set on a quest to find the cure for human suffering. So he removed himself from his rich palace and took to the road and along it through trials he discovered meditation and practices that lead him to becoming "enlightened"
