Default Who follows the religion of "Christianity" and who follows the Lord Jesus Christ?

Alot of people seem to be getting hung up on "Christians" that they know who are anything BUT Christ-like. So, followers of Christ, if the world is seeing a bunch of hypocrites, we must not be following Him. Who are you following really? I was raised in the church, but I didn't believe in Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God till my late 20's. Funny thing is I still thought I was a Christian! So, "Christians" who do you follow, and who does the world see in you? There is a difference between the world hating you for His sake, and hating you because you talk the talk.

I say this for the unbelievers- God isn't saying follow the "Christian" guy or gal you work with or live next door to etc.. He is saying follow my Son. If you choose to truly follow Him, you may be shocked to find that the "Christians" you know don't like you any better than before. But the good news is the hype is true. Jesus Christ rose from the dead and lives even now, I've met Him. Believe on Him! He lives!

Great points. There is a huge difference between religion and relationship.

Unfortunately, I don't believe that many grasp this simple concept, as many are ignorant to the actual scripture, as they let their opinions be determined by others, which is so conformist it is ridiculous (though Christians are portrayed as such). I completely agree with you, and follow Jesus Christ and the teaching of the Bible.

amen....we need a move of the spirit, and leaders that are truly Christlike to stand up and lead these generations in the preparation for the Lord Jesus Christ's return...we need a Paul or a timothy....

Jesus did not worship himself and either do I. I worship the God that he worshiped. I am a follower of Jesus (peace be upon him) but not a Christian.

Just like he said "the father is greater than me." enough said.

I am a Christian and yes there are hypocrites out there but you cant exactly say all are hypocrites becks i know I'm not. but Pol see in me the love of God and his works working in my life...Christianity is not a religion its a relationship but a person may see one christian not acting like it and they stereotype all...all are not that way

May I remind you of the scripture, "A house divided against itself cannot stand"

It appears that you could not practice faith as you saw it.
That is perfectly understandable. But many who are members of Christian churches have found a deep and abiding faith within the congregations that you seem to be putting down as unchristian Christians.

Rejoice in your own faith, and be glad for them in their faith. There are many roads to Christ.

Assuming, for the sake of argument, that Jesus Christ existed and was god in human form, then he is the biggest criminal in human history, since he would have known in advance all the torment and suffering that would occur in his name in the subsequent 2,000 years or so after his birth, and he allowed it to happen.

As Robert Green Ingersoll said:

"If Christ was in fact God, he knew all the future. Before him like a panorama moved the history yet to be. He knew how his words would be interpreted. He knew what crimes, what horrors, what infamies, would be committed in his name. He knew that the hungry flames of persecution would climb around the limbs of countless martyrs. He knew that thousands and thousands of brave men and women. would languish in dungeons in darkness, filled with pain. He knew that the church would invent and use instruments of torture; that his followers would appeal to whip and fagot, to chain and rack. He saw what creeds would spring like poisonous fungi from every text. He saw the ignorant sects waging war against each other. He saw thousands of men, under the orders of priests, building prisons for their fellow-men. He saw thousands of scaffolds dripping with the best and bravest blood. He saw his followers using the instruments of pain. He heard the groans -- saw the faces white with agony. He heard the shrieks and sobs and cries of all the moaning, martyred multitudes. He knew that commentaries would be written on his words with swords, to be read by the light of fagots. He knew that the Inquisition would be born of the teachings attributed to him."

"He saw the interpolations and falsehoods that hypocrisy would write and tell. He saw all wars that would be waged, and knew that above these fields of death, these dungeons, these racking, these burnings, these executions, for a thousand years would float the dripping banner of the cross."

"He knew that hypocrisy would be robed and crowned -- that cruelty and credulity would rule the world; knew that liberty would perish from the earth; knew that popes and kings in his name would enslave the souls and bodies of men; knew that they would persecute and destroy the discoverers, thinkers and inventors; knew that his church would extinguish reason's holy light and leave the world without a star."

"He saw his disciples extinguishing the eyes of men, flaying them alive, cutting out their tongues, searching for all the nerves of pain."

"He knew that in his name his followers would trade in human flesh; that cradles would be robbed and women's breasts unbaked for gold."

"And yet he died with voiceless lips."

"Why did he fail to speak? Why did he not. tell his disciples, and through them the world: 'You shall not burn, imprison and torture in my name. You shall not persecute your fellowmen.'"

"Why did he not plainly say: I am the Son of God,' or, 'I am God?' Why did he not explain the Trinity? Why did he not tell the mode of baptism that was pleasing to him? Why did he not write a creed? Why did he not break the chains of slaves? Why did he not say that the Old Testament was or was not the inspired word of God? Why did he not write the New Testament himself? Why did he leave his words to ignorance, hypocrisy and chance? Why did he not say something positive, definite and satisfactory about another world? Why did he not, turn the tear-stained hope of heaven into the glad knowledge of another life? Why did he not tell us something of the rights of man, of the liberty of hand and brain?"

"Why did he go dumbly to his death, leaving the world to misery and to doubt?"

"I" will tell you why. He was a man, and did not know."

Part of following Jesus is following his religion

" And I say to you: That you are Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

(The Greek word for rock is peter, as in "petroleum" meaning from the rock)
