The vast majority of Christians are completely unaware of who actually invented what we now call Christianity, so how could they have an opinion?

Emperor Constantine was the first to recognize Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire. He did an effort to mark the places where Christ was born and crucified. The Roman empire was a great vehicle to spread Christianity.

Constantine did a lot in terms of shaping some of the places the church now considers holy. He did not however affect beliefs at all. The main thing he did was call a council to write the nice an creed. This was only produced from what the bible says already however. The main reason this creed was signed was to stamp out heretics who were teaching false messages. That was quite effective as most of these 'teachers' then signed the creed!.

Actually, it is a common misconception that Constantine made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire, but that isn't quite true. He was the first to legalize Christianity with the Edict of Milan in 313

Emperor Theodosius I declared Christianity the state religion of the Roman Empire in 380

Certainly Constantine's role in helping spread Christianity was great. The ultimate of Church and State under Theodosius has had the pro of further spreading Christianity, but sometimes the con of the Church becoming too involved in the affairs of State. Overall Constantine and Theodosius brought a huge advantage for the spread of the gospel message.
