Default Athiests. If your best Atheist friend converted to Christianity, would you try to con

Or would you just stop hanging around with them...assuming that now that they are Christian, you would be a bad influence. And being newly Christian, they can't expose themselves to Atheists on their own for too long.

Well, my best friend is Christian. In fact, I don't know a single atheist personally other than myself.

So that's a big fat no, to both of your assumptions.

No, I'd just hang out with someone who was still intellectually respectable.

They could expose themselves to atheists, you can't hide from them, you have to get used to it. Sometimes adversary can make you stronger in your faith. I have three best friends: one is Christian, like myself, the other is agnostic, and the other is Muslim. We've never had problems of trying to convert each other.

Well I have a few christian friends, Hindu friends, Buddhists, Jews. None of us have ever tried to convert each other.

I'm pretty blasphemous and my friends are cool with it. So if one of the atheist ones converted I'd probably continue making Jesus jokes..

The only atheists I converse with are those here on Yahoo Answers. I don't know what kind of reaction I would have were a close friend to convert to Christianity. I do not, however, abandon people just because they have become deluded with a common belief.

No. But Christians do that to me sometimes. Whenever I say I'm Atheist after we get to know each other, they all of a sudden vanish. I never see or hear from them again. I couldn't care less if a friend of mine was Christian, actually one of THE BIGGEST Christians I know is a friend of mine. We get along dispute our differences.

You're thinking of this from a religious perspective. Atheists aren't trying to "convert". Proselytizing is a practice of the religious. It's very doubtful that a true atheist would become a Christian anymore than an adult would begin to believe in Santa Clause again.

Why do you feel that a new christian cannot be on their own with an atheist for too long? As a new atheist, I associated 100% with Christians. I was the only atheist I knew. But when I chose to only consider things for which there was evidence, I no longer needed affirmation.

Actually that did happen to one of my best friends...but it was his alcoholism that initially made me stop hanging around him because he could never keep his face out of the booze and I got tired of the drunken nonsense that spewed out of his mouth.

20 years later he called me up and said he was finally sober and wanted to know if I wanted to hang out again...I said "sure". We got together and for the next 2 hours all he did was spew out christian nonsense, preachy, preachy, preachy...telling ME that Jesus would save me like it did him. I just laughed and said "I am not the one with addiction problems, I have no need of Jesus". He kept spewing out the religious nonsense so I told him to stay away from me.

He is still a drunk...only difference is now he NEEDS to be spiritually drunk 24 hours a day, non stop bible reading and blabbing bout Jesus because the moment he stops drinking the Jesus juice he will be back on the whiskey in a heartbeat.

THAT is all that Jesus and religion is good for...keeping drunks and druggies from getting drunk and drugged up...but hey, at least you got something out of me, I admit Jesus is good for something at least!!!

"And being newly Christian, they can't expose themselves to Atheists on their own for too long."

Why? You either have strong faith or weak faith...are you actually admitting that newbie Christians and the TRUTH OF JESUS cannot handle an Atheists challenge to their faith?

LOL....you are right though.
