Default Will Conservatives freak out when Christianity is no longer the major religion in Ame

76% Americans identify themselves as some sort of Christians that was a study in 2010 in 2006-2007 Christians made up 95% of America i know this freaks conservatives out doesn't it?
Atheism/Agnostisism is rising it is now at 16%

Christianity is for me. I don't much care about your soul.

They already are... have you not seen 'Jesus camp', they are working on these kids early now. The church of today is NOTHING like it was when I was grow in up, telling kids about abortion and gay marriage and many other things they have no real way to comprehend.

edit* Agnostic.

this is a country that is founded on the idea that anyone can practice their religion in peace. In no way shape or form was this ever a christian nation

As a Christian myself, I wish Christianity were a minority religion. Too many fake people in the religion because it's socially acceptable. Maybe if it weren't the fakers would disappear, making the faith stronger.

If you aren't a believer, why would you care?

We do have the freedom to practice whatever religion we like, without persecution.

I go to a CHURCH where the congregation is made of pretty much half and half. I know the priests at the Church are all Liberals. I myself am a conservative. We all get along because we are first Christian and second belong to a political party!
In order for our church to survive, we must all get along, work together for the good of our church!
What freaks me out more then anything else is your grammar, sentence structure, spelling and your logic!

When 76% of Americans agree on ANYTHING, they're far far off from ceasing to be the majority.

I went through a period in college of being strongly attracted to Christianity, and I think it's a mistake to identify it with conservatism.

In some ways, Christianity has the potential to be an extremely intolerant religion - at one point in its history, during the Middle Ages, it probably was a good deal more intolerant than Islam. And some conservatives like intolerance ..

But Christianity also was one of the influences that inspired John Brown to launch his failed slave attempt at a slave uprising in Harper's Ferry in the late 1850s. Christianity was a good deal of what inspired many of the early Northern abolitionists, both white and black.

Christianity also inspired Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to take some stunning risks for the sake of African American liberation from racism and segregation in the 1960s. Also many of the 1960s anti-war protesters, those who weren't anarchists or rather secular-minded Jewish radicals, turned out to be radical Christians.

THIS side of Christianity - which arguably is close to the real teachings of the historical Jesus, not to mention some of the ancient Jewish prophets -- is something that conservatives have NEVER liked.

THIS side of Christianity, because it follows Biblical teachings about what Glenn Beck disparagingly calls "social justice," is a threat to greed, inequality, hard-heartiness & intolerance.

Accordingly, there will be some conservatives who will probably be glad to see Christianity dwindle in importance in America, so that the conservatives can follow a straight out Social Darwinist approach to politics & personal morality.

The late Ayn Rand and her "Objectivist" followers recognized this long ago: Christianity when it teaches such religious values as compassion for the poor, justice for the afflicted and forgiveness for the erring is a potential menace to capitalist values, and to the Objectivist "virtue" of selfishness that partly underlies them.

When Christianity degenerates into flag-waving, war-mongering selfishness and sexually repressed self-righteousness masquerading as faith, on the other hand, it does support many negative conservative values.

I am not a Conservative, but I am old enough I will not see that day. If your stats are right, it is a sad slide. On the other hand, why in God's name are us majority Christians letting the rest of you minority crap heads dictate where and what and who we can pray about? Take your Holiday tree and shove it! Merry Christmas!

Not really, I mean sure I would like more people to be Christians, but then they are completely free to make their own choices. Also I have a hard time believing that 76% of Americans are actually Christian, it seems much much lower than that.

This conservative won't. Why should I? Religion can be a guide, but it should never be a substitute for policy. Look at Iran or 16Th/17th century Europe to see what can go wrong with an established state religion. Social conservatism is not what conservatism is or should be, it goes against all the tenets of limited government. So I won't lose any sleep over it.

Unfortunately, America has no official religion. I think we should make the official religion. And Christianity will always be a major religion in this country. sorry
