Despite the pious explanations, isn't the way most Christians end up using their religion?

That's not the way I view Christianity.

It's not the way I was taught to view it either.

No, that is not the way Christians think. A Christian does not believe just because he is going to Heaven that he has the liberty to commit crime or any sin. That is a misconception of those who are not really informed about the true nature of Christianity. We know that for every action there is a reaction. For every sin there is punishment, chastisement. And if a person says since he is a Christian he can go ahead and commit some grievous act will be sadly mistaken when he gets to the Pearly Gates. For Christ will say depart from Me for I never knew You. That is not to say there is no forgiveness for sins. Of course there is. Jesus took care of that two thousand years ago. But what you are talking about is intent. If I say I am a Christian and I can commit murder because I'm going to Heaven anyway is a good indication that I'm not really a born again Christian. Just like in other beliefs Christians get a bad rap because of posers being bad examples of believers.

Think the christian church has lost it's way for the last couple thousand years - in the past, crusades even against fellow Christians - Inquisition - taking on very earthly wealth and grandeur - get a big kick out of these, what I call "christian burps" very righteous - running around questioning people whether they accept Jesus Christ as Lord with out any consideration of the teachings of Christ and especially these TV shysters giving out "double portion blessings" for about a thou.

There are hypocrites in every religion. My daughter's ex husband was a youth pastor. He made sure we saw him read the bible and used biblical quotes daily. The sad thing is one day while she was at work he packed up, emptied their bank account, took the car and disappeared. Left his wife and one y.o. daughter with nothing. He is a perfect example of a hypocrite
Then there was my sister in law who was a wonderful Christian who understood that religion was personal to her and did her good deeds with humility. She never bragged about her kind and generous gifts and never once used her Christianity to try to get away with anything.

Christianity is not a "Get out of hell free" card. We believe, and we try to please God, but we do not "use" our faith to gloss over bad behavior.

You are basically correct, the goal is to get to Heaven, and there really is nothing to stop any Christian from getting there. All you have to do is believe and it is true. But sadly this is true of Islamic and Jewish religions as well.

That is not what I was taught. We are not perfect and we commit the very things we know we should not, and we ask for forgiveness. But to purposely sin with the intention of seeking favor later will only achieve a big surprise when the time comes to atone.

No only people who claim to be Christians do this. They do it to appear superior in their own eyes and to try to fool others.

Just as people who claim to be atheists use that claim to do the same thing, in order to make snide remarks against something they cannot understand.

A true atheist does not have the urge to behave in such a silly manner.

No it is NOT how MOST (?) Christians USE their religion.
Where is your source that MOST Christians do that? No, I don't want to see your bare backside.

Paul even addressed this in Romans 6:1, 2
"What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2. By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?"
What Paul is asking, if God loves to forgive, why not give him more to forgive? If forgiveness is guaranteed,, do we have the freedom to sin as much as we want? Paul's strong answer is, "BY NO MEANS!" Such an attitude, deciding ahead of time to take advantage of God, shows that a person does not understand the seriousness of sin.
So, a Christian would not INTENTIONALLY go out to sin. One must be truly sorry and repentant (not want to do the sin again) and ask for forgiveness before ones sin is forgiven.

I guess you don't realize that thousands have tried to put Christianity down with their nonsense over the past 2,000+ years and, like you, they too have failed.

Hopefully when becoming Christian one desires to change and live as closely to the Biblical principles as one can.
But works doesn't get you to Heaven. Only accepting Jesus as Lord will. So if a "Christian" thinks that way, he is deceived. Jesus is the only way.

well God wants us to live a life that is pleasing to him. The body is the temple of God and must be kept holy but then sometimes we make mistakes. And after accepting we can ask God for forgiveness. And this is a sign of love for us.
and its not about religion its about relationship with God
