Default Which are the cults within Christianity which do not observe Lent?

Unsolved Miseries: No, Catholicism is the major sect within Christianity. Where did you go to school?
Unsolved: And with all your schooling, you somehow missed the basic history text which teaches the simple fact that Catholics were the first Christians?
Unsolved: Maybe you should stop saying bizarre things that make people GIVE you thumbs downs, then.
Unsolved: And yet you've traded in Catholicism for a bigoted, hateful mockery of something called Christianity. Well done you.
Blahnii - "Catholics revere the Pope and look to his teachings and interpretations of religious rites." No they don't, dear, get your head out of the hate literature and stop associating with hate cults.

Cult = Group of people that practise religious beliefs and rituals.

Stop using cult as a derogatory term.

Jesus Christ never told his followers to observe Lent, so the cults that celebrate Lent cannot be called Christian as they don't follow what he directed.(Matt 7:13-14)

There is no Biblical requirement to observe Lent. It is a pagan observance made up by the Catholic Church which is a cult/sect.

Definition of a cult:
1.a particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, especially as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3. the object of such devotion.
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.

Catholics revere the Pope and look to his teachings and interpretations of religious rites.
They prefer those dictum's and put aside Bible truths so they are outside true faith.

.Jesus NEVER gave direction to the apostles to observe Lent.

It should be important to all Christians, not just Catholic Christians.

Lent, in the Christian Church is the forty-day-long liturgical season of fasting and prayer before Easter. The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the desert, where according to the Bible he endured temptation by Satan.

The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer?through prayer, penitence, alms giving and self-denial?for the annual commemoration during Holy Week of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events linked to the Passion of Christ and culminates in Easter, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Is Lent biblical? Well lets see what the bible says

our Lord observed Lent for 40days.

Moses observed Lent for 40 days and received the commandments from LORD. (Exodus 34:28).

Elisha observed lent for 40 days and taken to heaven. (1 Kings 19:8)..

The people of Nineve observed lent for 3 days and were saved from the wrath of God. ( Jonah 3:6).

Esther describes in chapter 4, that during the time of Ahasuerus, that all Jews observed lent for 3 days and were saved from the death.

Prophet Daniel observed lent by praying and fasting for the Jewish people (Daniel 9:3-21)

Ezra received blessing from God when she observed Lent. (Ezra 8:23)

Nehemiah observed lent and received blessing from God (Nehemiah 1:4)

?Proclaim a fast, call an assembly; Gather the elders, all who dwell in the land , Into the house of the LORD, your God and cry to the LORD.

In all these versus our Patriarch?s and our LORD observed the Lent. Though the number of days varied, in all these cases, God favored and blessed the people who observed the Lent.

She [Anna] never left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer? (Luke 2:37)

Matthew 4Th chapter describes our Lord?s observance of lent for 40days and His win over Satan.

Our Lord commands how to observe Lent in Matthew 6:16 . ?When you fast do not look gloomy like hypocrites??? But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who see what is hidden will repay you?

Our Lord teaches that the church should observe Lent till He come back. ?The days will come when the bridegroom is taken from them, and then they will fast? (Matthew 9:15)

Acts 13:2 says that the Christians at Antioch has been fasting and worshiping the Lord.

?The completing their fasting and prayer, they laid hands on them and sent them off? (Acts 13:3)

Catholic Christian ?

I would say that just about any denomination that doesn't observe Lent is riding the ragged edge.

Jesus established the pattern for Lent when He went out into the desert and fasted and prayed for 40 days. He also said, "WHEN you fast. . ." Not "IF you fast. . ." or "Maybe if you feel like fasting and get around to doing it sometime. . ." He expected His people to fast and pray, and that's what we do when we observe Lent.

So how can you claim to be Christian when you don't follow our Lord's example and act as if those who do obey Him are in the wrong, not you?

Edit:

Oh yeah, I forgot. Anyone who's capable of extrapolating information and doesn't have to have everything spelled out for them wouldn't be a fundamentalist in the first place.

And love those thumbs-down, folks, so keep 'em coming. A thumbs-down from a fun die or their ilk is the equivalent of a "Job well done" from anyone else.

Most don't.

I was raised Methodist and we never did. However, I've noticed in the past few years Methodist churches offering some sort of Lenten practice, and fish Fry's etc. I think that many faiths have found, what Catholics have always known, that Lent it a good spiritual discipline and has benefits for those truly seeking to follow Christ.

Lent is biblical in the sense that we are called to follow Christ, and Christ spent 40 days in the desert, denying himself food, in order to prepare for his public ministry, passion and death. In following Christ, we in a very small way, sacrifice for 40 days to prepare for his passion, death and of course glorious resurrection.

Unfortunately for people like Chris (and others here), they are so busy looking for the word "Lent" in the Bible and that they miss out on this meaningful practice and opportunity to be closer to Christ.

i believe only Catholic and Orthodox are the only that HOLD to a solid Lenten Practice.
more and more individual protestant & baptist churches are seeing the validity and beauty of the Lenten practices but not held to as a solid practice.

when i lived in the south, i was a minority at work -- major minority I was surprised to find some protestants, Methodists & Lutherans who participated in lent AND ash Wednesday! after the Passion of the Christ was released more and more churches down there seemed to come to understand [the Catholic] celebration of Easter starting with Lent, then the Triddium and Easter celebration - this included a couple Baptist parishes to which I had friends that were solid members. I remember one coming up and telling me about her pastor bringing in a cat of nine tails and making the members hold it and the powerful emotions that were rampant. she had never in her 30+ years of cognoscente church going heard about the Passion as an all encompassing lesson.
