It's not about us, Hun. It's about the Lord their God. They hate the Lord their God and are in utter rebellion against Him. Rapture is months away, prepare to meet thy Lord.
I just believe in Science over God, I respect Christians but when I start being forced or pushed to believe in God I get ticked off. Has happened to me but I still respect their beliefs.
My respect for Christianity is limited to its usefulness in fearing people into behaving decently; that is to say, I respect it about as much I respect the usefulness of the story of Santa Claus to keep children behaving.
As far as individual Christians, I get along fine with them if they don't try to convince me I'm wrong.
I don't hate Christianity. I don't think it makes any sense and I'm not a fan of a lot of things that have been done in the name of Christianity but yes, I have many close family members and friends who I care about a great deal.
I also don't make decisions about the sort of person someone is based on their religious affiliation. A Christian has just as much chance of being a person I think very highly of as anyone else.
I hate the organized religion that attempts to pass morality laws and halts humanity from learning because they feel they already have everything they need or have all the answers.
I don't need to be saved or protected from an afterlife I don't believe in. Evangelism is annoying. If I wanted to be saved, or offered an afterlife, I know where to go. (Do YOU like pushy sales people?) It's like advertising for milk...if I want milk, I know where to get it. I just don't believe milk has special powers.
I would protect your right to believe what you want, as long as you respect mine.
There are also a lot of myths about atheists, and it's almost hilarious, but I'm just trying to stand up and attempt to dispel them, at least for myself, who is the only person I can truly speak for.
Here's what I care about: Do not support laws or attempt to influence my morality or that of others. Let gays marry (it doesn't hurt you, it hurts others), let me look at porn if I choose to do so, let me buy booze if I choose to. I am a social libertarian, and believe that I am responsible for my own education, responsibility and person.
I love people who do the right thing, regardless of their faith or lack thereof. I don't like people who do horrible thing, regardless of their faith or lack thereof. But what is the right or wrong thing? Now that we may disagree.
No we respect Christianity and believe everyone should be free to believe it if they wish but how could we love the followers when they post all that intolerance, hatred, bigotry and persecution?
