Yeah Ur defiantlyLyot looking hard enough. singing is like THE oldest form of worship, i think u would be hard pressed to find a religon that doesnt use a hymn, chant or incantation in their ceremonies. Christianity is probably the only religon that has actual "songs" in the european form as we know them.
Please try to look up other religions. Others have hymns as well. The reason why Christians sing hymns is that to sing about a god or God is to give him praise and worship.
Sorry,I think you should note that the Psalms in the Old Testament were hymns to be performed in the Hebrew Temple, and before that, there were songs of praise recorded in Egypt for their Gods. And Tibetans have their famous choirs for Buddhist worship.
Background: The into need (sung) liturgy was used to help project the voice in those days before the microphone. Hymns...verse in rhyme...was used to help people remember the theology...just as children today learn the A,B,C song.
In my opinion theology is largely set aside in the modern hymns in favor of feelings. I note that, many of today's hymns speak of "You are an awesome God" and "Three things I pray" are set to convey praise.
But as an early poster noted, chants and psalms are indeed used by other faith groups.
Well I know why Christians sing hymns, but I am not sure if other religions have hymns and I wouldn't know why they don't if they don't.
Christians sing hymns because its in the bible to do it. There are several verses. Some of them are "Speak to one another in Psalms and Hymns and Spiritual songs." "Sing and make melody in your heart to the Lord". "If anyone is merry let him sing a hymn". There are many others.
Also Christians dint only sing songs to teach and uplift each other. They sing hymns to praise God.
