Default Why is Christianity and Islam, the two most intolerant religions, quickly growing?

Is intolerance popular among the world today? Do people enjoy looking down on others and insulting the way certain people are born or choose to act?
Btw, the Great Purple Hippo frowns upon intolerance.

When your preaching of tolerance has gone beyond the tolerance of people, they'll choose intolerance, such is the nature

I am not intolerant, stop generalizing, we are not all fire and brimstone fundamentalists. I don't look down on others and I certainly don't insult them because of the way they were born. I treat others the way I want to be treated, it is the only way to happiness and true joy.

Islam and Christianity both preach tolerance.
Some of the followers just don't abide by the teachings.

Islam is growing fast due to people realizing the truth.
Christianity is on the decline.

Yes, people do enjoy looking down on others and insulting them.

It's an unfortunate trait.

It can be contributed to many factors. It may simply be because Christians and Islamists tend to have more children.

Christianity is not meant to be that way. I'm tolerant of just about anyone. What I want is for people to be saved, I have observed God's word in the New Testament to be absolute truth by testing it. That is the scientific method is it not? Now people all interpret the bible differently, but it is true that there are absolute moral truths such as chastity, I've used logic and reasoning time and time again, and just remember we are bound by the natural law and the moral law but the moral law coincides with the natural law (that is, our instincts). This is the basis to all understanding and if you have not tested this religion, then you have no credibility to say that they are the 'most intolerant' when you most likely know of morals yourself. Now absolute morality exists (impossible to humans) because people would not argue what was right or wrong if it did not exist- C.S. Lewis.

Amazing. Do you actually know anything of Christianity or Islam?

I will admit, Christians have a well-earned reputation for forced conversions and torture of those who disagree with them. Even though the Inquisition is in the past, I still recall how others were treated by Christ's merciful and compassionate Church. To say the welcomes were warm is an understatement, to say the least.

While the Christians are well documented, by the unlucky Jewish, Christian, and Muslim victims, Islams treatment is not so well documented. I won't deny I have heard of "forced" conversations to Islam, both by old sources and even some modern speakers, from Desert Storm on. However, I have also heard of a prisoner, a christian, who was allowed to pray on his own and was not forced to convert, even though he was a prisoner and could have been made to. Since the first set of records is from the Crusades, and the second from the US, I tend to see them as unreliable. But, the POW's comments, are consistent with what I have seen and heard, and what is TAUGHT by Islamic Teachings. I think I would have found some texts stating forced conversions if this actually happened by more than just some small groups.

Honestly, the few times I have spoken with Muslims, we tend to agree on most things, and we each go our own paths. They do not, unlike Christians, try to convert me, nor I try to do them. But, every christian I meet, even in a cult or remote sect, does their best to change my views, even by threats of Hellfire and Damnation, if I don't. Worse, the court system in the US will allow lawyers in a church to blackmail the members for money (or go to court) and will allow punishments for not being christian, but Satanic (a very large and unexplained definition, by the way). With TN recently considering making it illegal for Muslims to pray, and the recent attack on three Mexican Jews who dared to pray on a plane, I can see that Christan's are no more tolerant than they ever have been. But, it is important to note that most Christians are not Christians, as the nine of the Ten Commandments, if not all Ten. There are so few true Christians alive, that I shudder to think how Christ will see the world when the end comes, or how G-d will for that matter.

Intolerance is the heart of the US, in case you haven't noticed. Even in the War in Iraq, the US has violated the rules for a Just War, and made up lies to give cause to invade. Honestly? The US is afraid of Islam because it would mean that most Christians, and all politicians, would have to change their ways, from lying to adultery, and actually be concerned about things like equality and Justice.

Just think, Great Purple Hippo, seeing people of all races and both sexes being allowed to live without being threatened by US laws that are clearly biased, abused by those who made them but enforced on those who see them as wrong, and can't even speak out against them without being threatened with death or prison. Gee, American like it should be.

Dear Great Purple Hippo,

Islam IS tolerant of all other religions. The Prophet Mohammed (pub) said to respect all religions. Please do not look at Muslim countries as examples. Many, many Muslims have strayed from the path of truth.

I am Muslim & I am tolerant of other religions.
