well Catholicism is a christian church and I don't think it's powerful as many protestant churches, because the majority of presidents are protestants and also many senators are protestants.
Nope, because secularism is a part of humanism called "secular humanism" and that is a religion. Separation of church and state does not mean that the state will prefer laws to promote secularism and atheism or for that matter Christianity. You like most and I mean most never read the Supreme Court ruling and you likely do not even know the name of the case.
I take it you do not believe in Freedom of Speech? Or is that freedom of speech only for those who agree with you? Christians have just as much right to engage in the political system as anyone else does. If an person is elected to represent the people one would hope that he brings with him/her their own personal values, but that those values represent also the values of the people who elected them.
No. I want America to become a Theocracy like Iran. Just so the Christians then realize that a theocracy sucks, because it means no booze, no women (except wife), no free Sunday mornings, no porn, no gays, no abortions, no transsexuals, no cross dressing, no Jews, atheists, agnostics or other religious folks, no evolution, no science, no fashion and anybody who breaks the law....will get broken by the law in turn.
Yes. There is a rise in political nut-jobs that a starting to say that "this is how God wants it", and other ridiculously dumb crap. They can have their beliefs, that is fine, but don't impose them on me,
NO. because in a representative democracy, the government should TRULY represent the majority, aka "the people" - and if the people are religious, so should the government.
There should be separations... the government should not promote just one religion or make laws which favor just one. But I don't want a purely secular, aka Atheistic government. That would be a totalitarian regime because it no longer reflects the people is supposedly represents.
We may be drifting in this direction.. but I don't agree with that. Already, the separations between Church and State are er roding and the government has more control over religions then it did in the past.. creating a "State Religion" in a sense.
Examples: Religion ran Orphanages being forced to allow SS couples to adopt and being sued and closed by the State if they don't comply, even if it is against their beliefs. i.e. Boston Orphanage
Religious organizations being forced to provide Health Insurance which covers Abortions or they are sued or fined for not conforming, even though that is against their beliefs.
Even rumors that some provisions of the Universal Health Care will force Catholic hospitals to perform or refer abortions or be shut down by the State. (NOTE: Catholic Hospitals account for about 20% of the patient load in the U.S. with approximately 680 clinics and hospitals in the U.S. alone.)
Even our everyday laws is of biblical contents. The Catholic Church is among the oldest institutions in the world and has played a prominent role in the history of Western civilization, thus has tremendous influence in the world's society.
Ok Sparky, here's the problem: Let's say you banned the Church entirely. Closed the buildings, sold them all and used the profits to fund abortions, and made church services illegal.
You would still have people running around that thought "thou shalt not kill" and "thou shalt not steal" were good ideas. The church might have disappeared, but how would you keep these poor deluded fools from voting their consciences?
Maybe a more rational approach would be to admit to yourself that Christians are here, and that you need to learn to deal with it.
