Default Forgiveness: Are there conditions to forgiveness in Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hin

Forgiveness is what allows us to let go and move on for me....
Forgiving someone...
Forgiving oneself...

If there is a notion of God, are there conditions to his-her forgiveness ?
Askmuslims1,

I do not see in the verses of the Koran that you mention, any allusions against Polytheism...Are you adding these words up or Allah does not forgive everything ? If so, can you guide me towards which verses ?

You have to really mean that you are sorry and turn from sin to be forgiven. God forgives all sin just ask him. God Bless!!

Judaism gives you a frame of 10 days a year (between tosh ShannaNand yom kippur) in which you should forgive to anybody who asks for it and also repent for anything and everything. Supposedly, by the time those ten days are over, you're name is sealed in the book of life and you're guarenteed to live for the next year. don't let the ten day time frame scare you, you're supposed to atone all year around, but those days are the "days of awe" where you're supposed to be thinking about the next life and stuff. god always will grant forgiveness, if it is asked for.
there are no conditions to the forgiveness. if you ask the person for forgiveness three times and he/she hasn't forgiven you yet, God automatically forgives you.

Christianity:

there is simple conditions in order to have forgiveness:
1. forgiveness from god: you have to admit that you do the sin and regret it, and ask him to forgive you. that's all.
2. forgiveness from other: you have to admit that you do wrong and regret it, and ask him to forgive you. that's all.

admit.regret. ask. you are forgiven.

In Christianity we are supposed to forgive each other without even being asked and god has forgiven us already but we cannot continue to be forgiven by God if we continue to willfully do things that he has told us in the Bible not to do.

Most religions have a conditions for forgiveness. Judaism in the old days required sacrifices. Catholicism requires you to confess your sins, ask forgiveness and then do penance in the form of prayers, charity, or other activities. Other form of Christianity simply require you to ask god for forgiveness and be honestly sorry for whatever transgressions you have performed.

However, for most forms of Buddhism, this is NOT the case. Generally speaking, the forgiveness for crimes or immoral activities must come from whoever you committed the transgression against and from yourself. Buddhists believe that when we hurt others, physically, mentally, emotionally or any way at all, we are in fact hurting ourselves. Likewise, when someone hurts us, we should not be angry at the individual, but pity them for they are in essence hurting themselves as well, even if they do not realize it.

On of the more popular anecdotes found in Buddhism is the story of two waves crossing the ocean, one large and one small. The small wave said to the large wave, "Some day I hope that I can be just like you."

The large wave replied, "Just like me? What do you mean little wave? You are just like me?"

The little wave said, "I want to be big and strong and powerful, just like you sir."

The large wave then said, "What are you made from?"

The little wave replied, "Water, of course."

"And that water comes from where?" the large wave asked.

"From the ocean, sir." The little wave said and then added, "Everyone knows this."

"Well," the large wave began, "I am made of water too, and my water comes from the same ocean as your water. If my water becomes cold, does not your water? If my water becomes hot, is it not true that your water becomes hot as well? You see little wave, we are in fact two waves made from the same ocean."

At this, the little wave understood that he and the large wave and in fact all waves upon the ocean were connected my the common bond of ocean water. So too are all people, and in fact all live bound together. To seek forgiveness from another one must forgive oneself as well.

I hope this helps you.

To get full detail of conditions of forgiveness in Islam you have visit http://islam-usa.com/Forgiveness.htm

In brief Islam says

"Say: 'O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of God: for God forgives all sins (except polytheism): for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.'" (39:53)

"And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons the evil deed and knows what you do." (42:25)
