Default The original Americans were not Christians , they were Native Indians that did not wo

why do you say Christians were the first American's? I would say the Christian's were the illegals and murdered the true American's when they decided to come over here and take the land and force their beliefs on them. What do you think?
Briana, Visit a reservation then state that stupid remark. And you are a Republican aren't you!

Last I looked, the Indians didn't call themselves Americans nor did they have a concept of a country. It's called conquest, and we've treated them better than any other conquered people in the history of the world. They should be grateful. You are a liberal aren't you?

Specious argument. Throughout history, lands have been conquered and populations displaced and replaced. Not necessarily fair or right, but true.

I agree 100% I am native American Cherokee Navajo and Comanche. My ancestors were enslaved and forced to believe in Christianity. I am no longer christian but the religion of my ancestors is being erased by the ignorance of Christianity.
and Brianna. ill take care of you later. you've pissed me off because you lied about the natives being treated better. they were given diseased blankets shot at and enslaved.

Good interpretation, although I think it was more greed for the land than religious persecution that made them kill the Native (NATIVE) Americans. Let's hope some Alien Space Bats don't decide to pull an American Colonist on Earth and do the same to all humans!

The people who first came over to America were different groups of Christians trying to escape persecution in their native lands. The actual country of America was founded by Christians and on Christian beliefs. The Native Americans were here first, but they did not begin the country known as America that we know today, they were just living on the land that the settlers wanted to use. Of course it was wrong for them to kill the Native Americans and drive them out of their lands, but it has happened in every country at some point of time. We realized our mistake down the road and are now letting any Native Americans live on their own land and follow their own customs.

The first Americans are the aboriginals, and this is widely recognized. The idea that conquering someone negates the fact of their prior existence is so loony.

On person said something about "...we've treated them better than any other conquered people ..." What a pathetic excuse to claim 'Christians were first'. And not true either. There were campaigns of extermination all over the Americas including the US, Canada, Argentina and others. How do these qualify as "better" treatment?

If you could examine the Americas in, say, 1400, you wold have found cities, governments and nations, written language, mathematics, water and food storage systems, medicine, armies, religions and all the rest. The main differences between them and Europeans from a power perspective is that the euros had gunpowder, horses and smallpox.

Native Americans were the ones living on the continent at the time, whether or not there were people here before them is debated. However, America as a single country, rather than nation tribes of "Indians", was not formed until 1887, by mostly Christians.

You are partially right. Native Americans were the first to live hear, but it was only a land mass with several nations on it, not a country. It was the settlers that were tired of British rule that wrote the Declaration of Independence, fought and won the revolutionary war, wrote the first constitution which was based on the word of God. So it was the Native Americans along with the immigrants (my ancestors as well as some of yours) who were the first Amer cans.

I agree with a previous responder who said the Native Americans have been treated great. Show me any other group of people in the world who get paid only because of the color of their skin, have their entire college paid for from taxes because of their skin, own casinos and get rich never having to pay taxes on it because of the color of their skin.

Do not get me wrong. One of my best friends is full blood Sioux Indian, and he says this all the time and laughs about it.
