I would call it a philosophy rather than a religion, Like Nietzchism but on a totally different plane.
The main association between Confucianism and religion is the highly spiritual nature of the philosophy of Confucius.

COnfucius was not strictly a religious dude... cant remember he's traditional name, but I love the quotes. No its not a religion, but it certainly has a lot of knowledge that a lot of religious fanatics out there should heed and listen to.
